The case against them appears to have been built on a house of cards.

The sniffer dog evidence is deemed worthless, having as much as an 8 out 10 failure rate. The hair could have come any number of people. What do they have left - supposition, presumption, assumption - hardly a case to build on.

I also noticed that the Government Cabinet head of Media Monitoring has quit his high paying job, to work for the McCanns for free and Richard Branson has donated something like 100,000 GBP to the fighting fund. Apparently, they are also in direct contact with Gordon Brown and the Foreign Secretary, David Milband. I doubt that they would take such a risk on a high profile case unless they were convinced of their innocence.

I at least hope that the Portugese are spending their resources on following other leads or paths. It owuld be tragedy if they glued themselves to this one, flimsy possibility.

becomes more intriguing by the day, but I still think that the betting money is on innocence of murder, but odds on favoutite that they made the worst parenting act imaginable.

Comment by Buffy the Fanboy Slayer, on 12.09.2007 at 12:55

The DNA is not conclusive eveidence of anything. They would have had her DNA all over their items. Contamination of DNA is not unknown.

The main thing I don't understand is the public's desire to blame someone - the parents. How can anyone just say they did it, when they just don't know. Yes, it is fine to have an inclination, but keep it rational. I was amongst the minority who believed Lindy Chamberlain was innocent. It set people against each other in Australia at the time. People were like rabid dogs, making up all sorts of shit to justify their beliefs. I see that the media is now questioning Mrs McCann's use of make-up, always looking good. It is the same thing. No matter what you do, people/media will use anything you do/say and read into it to make the story they want.

The biggest point for me, as a parent, is they were bad and selfish parents (assuming they didn't do it). To leave their children alone like that is just bad. There is a problem to that though - it is extremely common. So many hypocrites out there will be villifying them and have done the same things themselves. I myself have been given a hard time because I won't attend Christmas functions (for work - that require a Motel stayover) and just leave my daughters alone in the room. This happened when they were 7 & 9. I won't do it now at 12 & 14.

Seriously, it is common, but for others, they should say, "there but for the grace of god, go I". Just luck (assuming they didn't kill her).

I am still sticking to my inclinination of innocence. I have yet to see anything to truly undermine it. Generally speaking, we must live by our western laws of innocent until proven guilty, and give them the benefit of the doubt - for the moment.

Comment by shiptoncraig, on 12.09.2007 at 12:33

The most suspicious thing is the fact that all of these DNA samples were found in the car, a while after she was "abducted". A judge is reading all the evidence to see if it can go to trial.

It seems increasingly more like a case of manslaughter (accidental murder) now...

Comment by The Croft, on 09.09.2007 at 20:06

[quote][b]Pok

Comment by CuRoi, on 09.09.2007 at 18:28

How long's it been now? Four months? She's gone, either dead or a sex slave. I really do feel for the parents (if they didn't kill her of course). Leaving their kids on their own while they went to a restaurant was a stupid, selfish thing but the punishment for it will be with them for the rest of their lives. I don't think social services (as some have suggested) should be involved.

Random fact: I was in that chapel in Luz where the McCanns were always seen in the media last month.

Comment by knighty, on 09.09.2007 at 18:11

New evidence: She had a catholic bible open on a page where....david or something kills his son.
