Media failure no 1. The relentless desire of the media to give you not the information most usefule to you but the information written and neatly presented by the authorities for you as if you needed it. As if you fucking needed it. Fuck off police I don't want you're opinion.

I wasn't there but it sounded like harmless fun. If anyone was assualted (the word can be used for many situations and actions including threatening behaviour etc) it would only for being an old fashioned old git trying to ruin the fun. I don't know all this but if I can't have a drinks party on the tube becuase some little shit broke a bottle I'm gonna be angry. I don't care if you didn't have fun mr policeman many people did.

Transport should be a tool of the poeple and nothing more.

"In order to get on a train you must have inserted your right leg into your arse, scratch your balls and hop along on your remaining arm."

Well I can't fucking do that so its not a very useful tool for me is it?

No drinking on transport huh? Fine. Never did anyway but I'd like to have the option.

but...

SL if you met me drunk on my way home on the tube I'm sure there's a possiblitiy you'd find me quite funny or very annoying but certainly not aggressive. I cause no problems for anyone and I never have. If I wasn't let back on a tube then I might not get home and it would be blatant that I was drunk. Its likely to be the last tube and if I don't get it it means finding my way back to croydon (not actually in london) possibly on foot (thats like properly all night and through some countryside and over some fords in the river and then over the mountains). It's not a very nice thing to do just because you might find me loud and annoying (you wont ill just be walking into stuff). Before you endorse further infringements of civil liberties and conservative ideas (not just no drinking, no being drunk) think about them.

Breathalised before going onto a train and by conductors collecting tickets? Whats next?

Breathalised in the street because you shouldn't be able to operate your body pissed and it's dangerous. There's loads of thing that could go wrong: You might cause someone to drown saving you, you might cause a car accident or you might sit down and squash a little girl.

FFS.

( Edited 01.06.2008 20:57 by KingDom )

Comment by Slydevil, on 01.06.2008 at 20:29

I find it's just generally obnoxious. I know it annoys me, and i've actually got a slightly plebbish friend who also does it. The arsehole usually has earphones in his pocket as well. I wouldn't make it a bannable nuisance though.( Edited 01.06.2008 19:31 by Slydevil )

Comment by Frazzle.d, on 01.06.2008 at 20:09

I dunno what stops people from just buying headphones, my headphones make some background noise but on a train / bus the noise generated is drowned out in the background noise of roaring engines and traffic as well as people talking. I guess for phones that it's somewhat to replace broken ones or whatever, but since the noise they make it's only a small nuisance, I can only really complain if there's kids or someone offended if there's blatantly explicit lyrics coming out on the back of a bus, that just shows ignorance.

Comment by SuperLink, on 01.06.2008 at 19:57

I don't think Martin was singling out black kids. I'm pretty sure it was just an example of something that actually happened to him.

That being said, would he has posted "little white kid" if it was a white kid? Or was there any need to mention the race at all?

Thin ice *heads back to dry land*

I think Slydevil hit it on the head about problems. I'd like to think blatently drunk people will be kept off trains though. How they'll do that I'm not sure. I have seen people on the National Train lines with beer cans. I don't know if they've done anything about the National Train.

Bloomin' Great Western.( Edited 01.06.2008 19:04 by SuperLink )

Comment by Slydevil, on 01.06.2008 at 19:50

Where's the gene that makes black kids more prone to blaring music from their phones? If you asked me to make the same superficial observation i'd say more white 'youths' do it. You weird lot.

I've personally never had a problem with drinking on public transport, but it's an incredibly hollow and ill-thought out proposal. I'd wager 99% of drink related assaults arised from the offender getting drunk before stepping foot in the vehicle. It solves nothing.( Edited 01.06.2008 18:51 by Slydevil )

Comment by Frazzle.d, on 01.06.2008 at 19:34

And this ban stops me being shot by blind terrorist chasing armed police or mugged... how??

What staff? I think this is probably the bigger problem.( Edited 01.06.2008 18:35 by Frazzle.d )

Comment by GR781, on 01.06.2008 at 16:59

I think it might well be- you see plenty of stuff on the tube at least about keeping headphones down, don't you?

I don't really see why you are singling black people out. There are people of all races who play shitty music on their phones on public transport. I'd say in my experience of living in London I haven't noticed any particular sway towards black people in particular.

As far as the ban on drinking on the tube goes, I think its fine- it isn't a major inconvenience to anyone really, is it? I mean I wouldn't feel pissed off that I was on the way out and I couldn't get drunk on the tube as well as before and after the journey..

If anything, it must be a pain and cost a lot for staff to deal with drunk people on the tube, and I'm sure it does result in some violence and intimidation.

edit: And of course, Boris Johnson did have this in his election manifesto, so noone really has much of a right to complain- if he didn't do this he'd be breaking a commitment. Alcoholism can reduce a man to a pathetic shell of his former self. It's not a criminal offence but it can get you chucked off. Nobody minds as there are loads of pubs and clubs within a minute of getting off at a station if you want your drink fix. In fact, Central Station has two or three clubs on the premises.

I don't really see the point in drinking on public transport either. Especially if you have to stand up.

Comment by SuperLink, on 01.06.2008 at 15:45

Martin, those guys were probably teenagers. They're the kind of people I talk about the the Teenager thread. :/ I hate them so.

To be honest, while I mostly have travelled on the tube in the daytime before, I don't think I've ever noticed people drinking. I have noticed drunk people though. Very annoying. I've been approached by a few very drunk men with stinky breath who've said very patronising things (no doubt they thought I was a girl)

So I think it's a good thing and I bad thing. I definitely don't think drinking is as harmful as smoking though.

Also I noticed this:
Oh... it's gone now. Last night when I looked at that article I could have SWORN one of the quote was from a man with the sirname "Mudkips". Seriously, no lie. Alas, the article has been edited today. I herd the BBC liek Mudkipz.
