Looking for a good console

I'm playing through it now and I gotta say the only thing that seems really out of place is all the talk of romance and love. I don't know if it was as cheesy as that in the original version though.

Meryl's ending is just so out of character for Snake it makes me cringe.

EDIT: By the way, he doesn't surf on the missile, he just hops off it in a Sonic style way.

I mean if he can take out a Hind D by himself he's gotta be pretty OTT anyway.( Edited 16.09.2008 23:33 by SuperLink )

It wasn't that bad. I liked twin snakes and i'd say it's on the same level as the original mainly cause they updated the gameplay to match that of MGS2 with first person aiming and extras in the menus. But hey i'm a MGS fanboy who owns 3 copies of MGS1 and two copies of 2 and 3. As said a lot of people put hate on the game for tiny little cutscenes tweaks that got blown out of proportion.

Yup, unless you desperately want to play online (in which case get the 360), the PS2 is arguably the greatest console of all time. It caters for everyone in every concieveable way and has a whole load of absolute top class gems to play.

Erm, there is no better console out at the moment than the PS2. In fact, the PS2 is a serious contender for "best console ever". Literally thousands upon thousands of games to buy. Not that you'd want them all. But the sheer volume is unrivalled, and means that there is a hell of a lot of good ones, too.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative, I would hit up the ps2...Sure its a bit outdated...Sure there are better consoles out...Sure you wont be able to play all the latest, greatest games.

On the other side, there are a fair few absolute top notch games you will be able to play. Enough to keep you well and truly occupied in the gaps between wii games. The prince of persia trilogy, team Ico's releases, God of wars, beyond good and evil, psychonauts, okami, guitaroo man, conflict desert storms ... I could go on.

The point is, there are so many fantastic games on that console, which, providing you dont play games for graphics, or awesome grenade throwing skills; you will love.

The only reason why Twin Snakes wasn't as good as the original was because it didn't have the Encounter music in it. That's like the main theme for the MGS series. Other than that Twin Snakes was a pretty good game.

I do see why MGS fans see issue with Twin Snakes, as it's quite a mish-mashy "remake". It added stuff half-heartedly without consideration and forgot to add other obvious features. Including a first person view was a huge bonus for me, but (as said above) it did make a couple of boss encounters a little too easy. Then there was the stuff like being able to hang off rails, even though the game didn't benefit from it due to lack of useful rails to actually use. VR missions were gone yet Snake could only run in 8 ways at either a walk/run pace.

I agree to an extent that the new voice acting was a little shabby (except for Colonel) and the Matrix-y cutscenes were very silly. Even so, the game itself is still present and it benefits from the MGS2 FPV.( Edited 13.09.2008 19:13 by shiptoncraig )
