Rocks was great - I remember it really taking me back. I love puzzle games like this, Dig Dug and Mr. Driller :D

Comment by RudyC3, on 02.10.2012 at 23:19

Rocks felt even further off from the original I love so much... but it felt like a more balanced new twist on the old formula, and definitely more challenging than XL. Rocks seemed to have its own personality, which I found to be lacking in XL. XL felt like it didn't quite know whether to stick to the original formula, or to be something else entirely, and it sits somewhere in-between, hard to define. It's still fun entertainment, but just less refined than Rocks could be. Rocks would be... 8.5 for me :P. Hard to decide between a 8 or a 9.

For the record, I picked it up as a DS hidden gem, in that feature we did last year.( Edited 02.10.2012 23:21 by RudyC3 )

Comment by Guest, on 02.10.2012 at 18:25

Rudy, how would you rate Rocks compared to this? You'll see from my old review I gave it 8, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts...

Comment by RudyC3, on 02.10.2012 at 09:53

Had a lot of fun with this, but felt slow compared to the old ones. Rocks on DS already had that problem.

A lot of the arcade caves felt like the were set on tracks instead of truly letting you go wherever you want like in the old days. New players won't notice the difference, but it felt really awkward to the old Boulder Dash fan in me.
