Just finishing up a quick VC review of Kirby's Star Stacker at the moment :awesome:

Thanks for the Qs. I can put together the basics, but it's always good to get a few from real fans of the games :D

Comment by SuperLink, on 18.11.2012 at 19:33
Won't have time I'm afraid! Really need to knuckle down with my work unfortunately. And I remember I sent you only one question before:
"did you have ideas for sequels as soon as the first game was finished or is every game's plot mostly separate from one another"

Thinking up questions isn't really my strong suite! If I think of any more I'll post em here though.

Comment by Adam Riley, on 18.11.2012 at 19:28

I don't remember...I thought you only gave me questions for Liberation Maiden? If you did, you may need to email me again!

Are you going to write a quick hands-on of the Virtue's Last Reward demo? Would be good before the release of the game...If you've not got time, though, let me know and I'll try to do something quick :)

Comment by SuperLink, on 16.11.2012 at 14:35
Didn't I email you some a while back? :P Well I have a couple in spoilers (i may have asked these before can't remember-)

When creating the character and plot point of All-ice/Alice, did you always intend to have her as a character who would be expanded in a possible sequel or was she originally just to keep the player thinking?

Was it difficult to come up with more ideas using the number 9 but still keeping the plot and structure fresh?

Is the Zero Escape series going to have an end after 3 or 4 games or will it keep on going?

Will each game be connected in some way?

Will let you know if I come up with more.. I wonder if they'll answer anything about the next game in the series :P( Edited 16.11.2012 13:35 by SuperLink )

Comment by Adam Riley, on 15.11.2012 at 23:51

That's great - please feel free to ask more if you want :) I like the last Q :awesome:

Josh, have you got any as well? Especially after trying the demo?

Comment by JayUK, on 13.11.2012 at 21:33

I was wondering if puzzles would be skippable once you've completed them in Virtues Last Reward. In 999 it got a little bit tedius playing through the first puzzle 6 times.Â

Also it would be interesting to know if they'd considered releasing 999 as a digital download on the 3DSÂ e-shop seen as it never got a release in Europe.

As a silly question how about this:

if you could kidnap a character from another company and put them in a Zero Escape whose room would you release the sleep gas into Kyle Hyde's, Guybrush Threepwood's, Phoenix Wright's or Professor Layton's.

Comment by Adam Riley, on 13.11.2012 at 14:01

Folks - you may all be able to help me here...Cubed3 has been granted an interview with Chunsoft about Virtue's Last Reward and I thought you'd all love the chance to get some questions answered!

Please just post here - anything that pops into your head. Ties between 999 and VLR, any cameo appearances, anything that springs to mind :)

Comment by SuperLink, on 13.11.2012 at 00:16
I simply agree to disagree then, I think the standalone game works well with that one question hanging in the air, and I don't think it was intended to be seen as a joke at all, more of a shocker because you think everything's over, and bam, one more question you've been wondering about the whole time appears in the flesh.

I'll admit the climax was ridiculously Romanticized but I loved it, everything was so crazy and bizarre that it felt like entering a trance-like state during the final puzzle, similarly to how Junpei and Akane were. Of course if it wasn't for the journey there I don't think I'd have enjoyed it nearly as much.
Comment by JayUK, on 13.11.2012 at 00:07

thats my issue with it, just because junpei getting to that point is so contrived and requires June to be alive for him to get there. As for the Allice thing it requires a sequel for it not to be considered a bad joke. As a stand alone game its beyond silly to end on that.

Comment by SuperLink, on 12.11.2012 at 23:57
Time is different for different works of fiction and really doesn't have any set rules (or rather it doesn't have to make sense because time itself is a construct for the sake of convenience rather than holding any kind of universal truth), it makes the plot more interesting, and Akane's existence relies on Junpei's completion of the second nonary game. Similarly, his completion of the second nonary game relies on her completion of the first, it's a cycle and it's all a bit romantic and fantastical but that's part of what makes it so good. The future and the past happen at the same time, at least from the morphogenetic field, those points in time are completely intrinsic and parallel to one another, they're the product of many other possible times and possibilities and they rely on each other to exist.

She stops being a red herring and starts being an unexplored plot point, ripe for sequel making! Initially it was probably nothing more than a tease and to keep people asking questions, to keep interest going, I don't see anything wrong with that at all! I was ecstatic to discover that there may be more to what I considered to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the game (Allice and Ice-9, I love the concept of Ice-9 and interestingly enough I'd actually seen Cat's Cradle in theatre before playing 999, total coincidence) would be further explores, even more ecstatic to find out that Allice was in VLR.

It's probable that everything we know about Allice from 999 is a genuine red herring, and that her real story is different, and her appearance in the desert is nothing more than a coincidence to keep you guessing.
( Edited 12.11.2012 23:03 by SuperLink )
