UK Chart Analysis: EA FC 26 Kicks Mario Kart Down, Silent Hill f Spooks Everyone, and Sonic Racing Skids into the Top 5

This week’s chart, brought courtesy of NielsenIQ and GfK Entertainment, is shaped by blockbuster debuts, with platform splits telling their own story. At No.1, EA Sports FC 26 launches strongly, with 67% of sales on PS5, 14% on Xbox, 8% on PS4, and a combined 11% across Switch and Switch 2. That spread shows how the franchise is still anchored on Sony’s console but is broadening its reach across generations. Interestingly enough, sales of this latest edition are so high that even a 4% share on Switch 2 makes it the second best selling Switch 2 game of the week, landing just behind Mario’s karting antics, and Donkey Kong’s banana-fest on the Switch 2 Top 20. Equally impressive is how even just a 7% on Switch made it the biggest selling game of the week on that platform (higher than Minecraft at No.2). Last year’s FC 25 remains at eleven, still going strong, albeit heading down five spots. At No.2, Konami’s Silent Hill f is overwhelmingly a PlayStation 5 favourite, with 92% of sales there compared to Xbox. It underlines how horror remains a genre where Sony’s ecosystem dominates. Konami’s other hit, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, at fifteen shows a similar skew, with 90% on PS5.

Nintendo’s continued strength is clear, but the split between Switch and Switch 2 is particularly revealing. Mario Kart World continues to be strong at No.3, dropping two, while Donkey Kong Bananza slides three to No.6, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues its race at No.9. Super Mario Party Jamboree at twelve shows a 62/38 split between Switch and Switch 2. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom at thirty‑one is almost evenly divided, 51% on Switch and 49% on Switch 2, while Breath of the Wild at No.37 (plummeting from No.25) is 56% Switch and 44% Switch 2. These figures highlight Nintendo’s strategy of easing players across generations, with some franchises moving fully to the new hardware and others straddling both.

SEGA’s Sonic Racing: Crossworlds debuts at No.4 with 55% of sales on PS5 and 30% on Switch, whilst the other speedster offering, Sonic X Shadow Generations at No.23 twenty‑three is more evenly spread, with 37% on Switch and 33% on PS5. Take Two’s Borderlands 4 at No.5 slides three, with 80% of purchases being on PS5 (the Switch 2 version has been delayed to iron out bugs), while NBA 2K26 at No.8 is a powerhouse on PS5 with a 92% platform share. Grand Theft Auto V at No.10 shows no signs of dying off, being heavily PS5‑driven this week with a 75% split, and recent release, Mafia: The Old Country, is merely down one to No.13, with an 87% chunk coming from PS5, again showing the dominance of Sony’s console for narrative‑driven action, but also since Games Pass data isn’t included here, sometimes the picture is slightly skewed on retail-only charts like this.

Bandai Namco’s Pac‑Man World 2 Re‑Pac launched last week and has now chomped its way to No.14 with a split of 48% PS5 and 44% Switch. Armored Core VI at No.24 is 92% PC (remember, even codes in a box are classed as retail data), showing how that franchise remains PC‑centric. The Witcher III Complete Edition returns at No.25, while the GotY Edition arrives back in town at No.18, with the SKUs featuring being only PC (57%) and PS4 (43%). Star Wars Outlaws has fallen out of the Top 40, but it resides at No.8 on the Switch 2 Top 20 (down four), just below Kirby and the Forgotten Land at No.7 (down two), and given how Forgotten Land is at No.34 this week on the main Top 40, Ubisoft’s Star Wars Switch 2 port could very well be languishing just outside the Top 40.
