UK Chart Analysis: Snake Grinds the Gears of War and Eats Mario as Metal Gear Solid Claims No.1

It’s a busy week over in the UK charts as big hitters, Gears of War: Reloaded and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater blasted off, with the latter claiming the No.1 spot from Mario Kart World. Microsoft’s debut of Gears on PS5 had to make do with third as Mario’s racing antics on Switch 2 still prove to be very strong indeed. Hogwarts Legacy shows no sign of slowing down, either, as it holds at No.4, EA Sports FC 25 slips two to No.5, and Donkey Kong Bananza slides down the sales vine from No.2 to No.6, just ahead of the revitalised Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which re-enters at No.7 thanks to the Star-Crossed World upgraded release on Switch 2 joining the Switch original. Elsewhere in the Top 10 of the Entertainment Software chart, the farming bug has gripped British gamers once more, with the former Harvest Moon series making a reappearance as Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar digs its way to No.9 in its first week on both Switch (41% share) and Switch 2 (59% share).

Further down the list, all data provided by NielsenIQ/GfK Entertainment, Lost Soul Aside debuts at No.14 on PS5, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is in at No.21 (PS5 leading the way with 75% of sales, Switch with 24%), and there are some Evercade titles making the cut – Neo Geo Arcade 1 new at No.19 and Roguecraft DX new at No.36.

Over on the Switch 2 Top 20, Kirby landed at No.3, Story of Seasons at No.4, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 sticks at No.5, Super Mario Party Jamboree slips three to No.6, whilst The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom drops four to No.8. Whilst at the lower end, Madden NFL 26 is bottom of the list, falling four, ending up just below Civilization VII, which remains at No.19 for another week and WWE 2K25 slides four to No.18. Wild Hearts S no longer features, unfortunately, despite positive reviews and a lack of Monster Hunter competition on the platform.
