Sakuraco’s February 2026 release arrives under the theme A Kyoto Valentine’s, a curation inspired by Kyoto’s long‑standing association with romance, craftsmanship and seasonal confectionery. The accompanying guidebook sets the tone with cultural notes on the city’s traditions, including the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, star‑crossed lovers separated by the Milky Way, and the Jishu Love Shrine, known for its “love stones” where visitors test their romantic fortune. These touches frame the box as more than a snack selection, grounding it in Kyoto’s heritage.

The tasting experience begins with Caramel Bergamot Hojicha, a roasted tea lifted by a soft citrus note, paired with Heartfelt Chocolate Drops, small chocolates chosen to match the Valentine’s theme. Kyoto’s confectionery traditions appear early through Baked Yatsuhashi, a crisp rice‑based sweet with a warm cinnamon profile, and Chocolate Mochi, which offers a dense, fudgy centre wrapped in a soft, chewy layer. A notable inclusion is the Vintage Kimono Cloth Pouch, handcrafted from reclaimed kimono fabric. It introduces a tactile, elegant element to the curation and serves as a symbol of good fortune, aligning neatly with the box’s romantic theme.
The selection continues with Soba Boro cookies, light and subtly sweet, followed by a Matcha Cream Senbei, where two crisp rice crackers sandwich a smooth matcha filling. Seasonal fruit flavours appear in the Amaou Strawberry Cake, made with one of Japan’s most prized strawberry varieties, and the Kyoto Torii Gate Senbei, shaped to echo the iconic shrine gates found throughout the region.
Matcha enthusiasts will appreciate the Matcha Tsujiri rolled cookies, wafer‑thin and delicately flavoured. The box also includes Strawberry Chocolate Crunch, combining crisp wheat puffs with a sweet strawberry coating, and Coffee Jali Mame, roasted sunflower seeds with a gentle coffee note that adds a different texture to the mix. Savoury balance comes from Yuzu Salt Crackers, offering a bright citrus lift, and the curation concludes with a generous bag of Kyoto Okoshi. These traditional puffed rice confections arrive in three flavours – earthy matcha, tangy pickled plum and classic peanut – each offering a different take on a long‑established Kyoto sweet.
The February 2026 “Kyoto Valentine’s” box stands out as one of Sakuraco’s more atmospheric seasonal collections. The blend of regional flavours, artisan craftsmanship and cultural storytelling creates a cohesive experience that feels both celebratory and rooted in tradition. Supported by thoughtful presentation and a strong sense of place, it offers a gentle, charming tour through Kyoto’s confectionery culture and its romantic folklore.
