One of the most exciting Gamescom appointments was, for sure, playing Final Fantasy Resonance. Being a big fan of turn-based, traditional JRPGs, this game holds all the promises. During a 60-minute exclusive appointment, Cubed3 got to play a carefully curated demo of the latest in Square Enix’s long-running series.
Final Fantasy Resonance looks amazing right from the get-go, and this is true for both the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. The HD in this HD-2D adventure is truly crisp, and this is true for both gameplay and cutscenes. Speaking of which, adding cutscenes, especially in different art styles, makes this title so much more exciting. The cinematic pixel art scenes look both modern and old (in a nostalgic way), and bring a bit more liveliness to the gameplay.

Gameplay is mostly what could be expected, with some exciting extras. Enemies can be staggered, in a similar way to Octopath Traveler, by exploiting weaknesses. Battles require a strategic mind, with different options depending on how players set up their party and skills. The party set-up can make or break a boss battle for sure!
As expected from a Square Enix title, the sound is absolutely on point. Beautiful musical tracks are paired with crisp sound effects and fantastic voice acting. Having played with Japanese sound, the whole experience completely transports one into a different world.
It is fair to say that Final Fantasy Resonance is definitely something to look forward to. It will be amazing to experience the story in this beautifully made game, and anyone loving turn-based JRPGs is likely going have a fantastic time with this one.
Final Fantasy Resonance will be released on 22nd October on all major consoles and Steam.
