Octopath Traveler, a series by Square Enix that is reminiscent of ye olde times classic turn-based RPGs, is just about to see its latest entry. Here is a little peak of what to expect in Octopath Traveler 0.
Unlike Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II, the current title does not start by selecting a character with a mysterious backstory. Indeed, the player creates a character and their backstory, at least to an extent. This is both exciting and surprisingly nerve wracking – a feeling that will come through at several other times while playing.

The art style stays loyal to what has come to be known from previous titles: retro-looking at first glance, and yet more intricate than games back in the day were. The start of the story is perhaps a little bit too cliché; however, it nonetheless gets the imagination going. With fantastic voice acting and, at times, very familiar music, there is little to stop players from exploring the stories once started. Yes, stories they are indeed, because the player chooses which path to take.
There are decisions to make (remember the nerve-wracking decisions mentioned earlier? Oh, yes, there will be more!), towns and areas to explore, side stories to play, and main stories to choose from, amongst other things. In fact, there is so much to do that it can get quite overwhelming. In other words: Octopath Traveler 0 will need time; it has to be enjoyed slowly, and enjoyable it is!
In true Octopath fashion, battles are unforgiving and merciless. Strategising is key, and finding companions even more important than ever. The title is packed with interesting characters and stories, and offers so much to do and get lost in that time is easily forgotten about. Even after hours of gameplay, the surface is hardly scratched.
