Nintendo Switch to Launch Worldwide on 3rd March on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The much anticipated release date for the Nintendo Switch console was confirmed this morning: Friday 3rd March.

Nintendo held an international conference this morning in Japan to share various details on the system, its games and price. The system is set to launch globally, at varying price points: 29,980 Yen in Japan, $299.99 for North America and retailer-specific prices in Europe. The system will be available at £279.99 on the Nintendo Official UK Store, however.

The core package includes the main console, the Joy-Con controllers, a Joy-Con grip, Joy-Con wrist straps, dock, HDMI cable and an AC adapter. There'll also be two versions of the system at launch: One with standard grey Joy-Con controllers and another that comes with one neon blue and one neon red controller.

The console will include a 6.2 inch display for on-the-go gaming, plus boasts a multi-touch capacitive screen that can be used in supported titles. The controllers will contain HD rumble for more subtle vibration, NFC support, an IR Motion Camera and a dedicated record button that'll grab snapshots of games to share with friends on social media.

"We will introduce the world to new experiences made possible by the unique characteristics of the Nintendo Switch hardware and the Joy-Con," said Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima.

Bit pricey but not as bad as I thought it might be. Especially considering Brexit.

Nah, I expected cheaper. Expected £250 solus or with a game. I would pay £280 with Zelda, but £280 solus is more than I thought. Need to shop around now.

What is it with the bad colours for the joycons too? Sony did awful blue and red for the DS4. Give us silver or white or transparent.

Well it was clear the UK price would be steeper, but I am surprised £280 isn't the price of a bundle with Zelda.

Considering the £60 price point for Breadth of the Wild I'm seeing listed, that's a lot of money overall, especially if you want the pro controller.

Would have been nice if they could have compromised with a game and system bundle for a £300.

Yup, this will add up to way more than my day one PS4, which is crazy for a system with 32GB internal storage and no traditional controller.

£60 for Zelda and £60 for the Pro pad is insane.

£280 with Zelda and a Pro controller (or Joycon + holder) and I would have been in, I think, but console alone is too much. That said, haven't played BoTW on Switch yet (Sunday, incoming), but it does look miles more fine tuned than the Wii U build I played in July. Then again, 6 months and fine polishing can make a lot of difference.

Be interesting to hear your thoughts on Zelda, jb. Hearing from some that it is actually running worse than the Wii U build, with frame drops when aiming and texture pop-ins etc.

But yeah, £280 or £300 with game and I'd be okay, but I'm scum and will do what I can to get the console with Zelda whatever the price. Still not a good price tho.

Kinda agree with you guys. £280 would be fine for me if the prices for the games, controllers and other accessories weren't so damn high >.>
