Boulies has made a name for itself by primarily designing and selling high quality office and gaming chairs since 2015. Most recently, it increased its range with the Boulies MagVida, an electric standing desk that promises a premium experience, and Cubed3 was kindly provided a sample for review. Does this desk manage to stand out?
The Boulies MagVida desk arrived in three parts: the huge (and heavy!) desktop, the legs, and the drawer. Fifteen minutes and a papercut later, and everything is unpacked and ready to be put together. This turns out to be easier to do than Swedish furniture, which is a relief. While some of the instructions do not 100% match the product, everything is very straightforward and self-explanatory, and the discrepancy only caused minor confusion. Putting the desk together only needs two tools: a standard screwdriver and an Allen key. Both are provided with the desk; however, they are not of the highest quality, and the crafty DIY-er may wish to use their own tools instead.

Once standing upright and plugged into a power source, it becomes clear that the desk is of very high quality. The large desktop provides a huge surface area (140 x 70 cm) with enough space for several monitors – and it comes in either white or black. The rounded edges look sleek and are perfect for accident prone people like this reviewer. Naturally, there is plenty of space underneath the desk, as well, and it feels very sturdy and secure.
The controls can be installed on either side of the desktop. While they are up to personal preference, they allow the user to move the desk up or down with the arrow buttons. In addition, they come with three pre-set heights allocated to the numbers one, two and three. It is easy to change these pre-sets to set personal heights so that the table is set specifically to what the user needs. A child lock is available as well, which is great in order to keep children safe and not have them play around with the desk, as this could potentially end in injury.

On the underside of the MagVida desktop are large metal plates that allow for accessorising. The desk itself comes with additional accessories: a small drawer, a hook (for headphones or bags), a cable tray and silicone straps. All of these are fixed to the underside of the desktop simply with magnets. This allows for easy installation and quick customisation. The drawer is perhaps a little small, but it is a really cool gimmick nonetheless.
The cable tray is large and hooks into magnetic hooks, making it easy to use. On top of this, the magnetic silicone straps provide even more possibilities to keep cables tidy and secure. While the metal plates may seem a bit flimsy, the idea itself is fantastic and actually works a charm.
