FeiyuTech Pocket 3 Kit

FeiyuTech Pocket 3 Kit Review

by Adam Riley 21 March 2026 0

FeiyuTech’s Feiyu Pocket 3 Kit takes a different approach to the pocket‑camera formula. Instead of a single handheld unit, it splits the camera head from the controls, adds a magnetic mounting system, and builds a workflow around flexibility rather than a fixed grip. It’s designed for creators who want stabilised footage without carrying a full rig, and for everyday users who want smooth, hands‑free filming in places a traditional camera can’t reach.

Design and Build

The pocket camera category has settled into a fairly familiar shape over the years, with most models following the same single‑body design that combines the camera, gimbal, and controls into one unit. FeiyuTech goes in a different direction with the Pocket 3. The camera module detaches from the handle and can be placed almost anywhere, opening up creative angles and hands‑free shooting that a fixed design can’t easily match. While DJI’s Pocket models are still the most recognisable name in this space, FeiyuTech in carving out its own market. The usual single handheld unit is still in play when the camera and mount/handle are connected, but the Feiyu Pocket 3 having the ability to separate the camera from the controls brings a greater focus on flexible placement and magnetic mounting. It gives the device a different identity rather than trying to follow the same formula, and it encourages a style of shooting that feels more open and creative.

Setup and Handling

The detachable remote handle is the second half of the system. It houses its own battery, a small display, physical controls, and a wireless link to the camera. When the camera is mounted remotely, the handle provides real‑time video transmission, allowing the user to monitor framing and adjust settings from up to 10 metres away. This is particularly useful when the camera is placed in hard‑to‑reach locations or when filming yourself without a second person behind the lens. The handle also charges the camera during use, extending total runtime to around 116 minutes compared to roughly 60 minutes when the camera operates alone. Wireless behaviour is straightforward but comes with a limitation: the camera can connect to either the handle or the Feiyu Cam mobile app, but not both at the same time. This means creators must choose between the convenience of the handle’s physical controls and the larger preview offered by a smartphone. In practice, the handle is the more reliable option for quick adjustments, while the app is better suited to more deliberate setups or when reviewing footage.

Stabilisation and Shooting Performance

At the heart of the system is the compact camera module. It houses a 1/2.3‑inch CMOS sensor (Sony IMX577) and captures 12‑megapixel stills alongside a wide range of video resolutions. The headline mode is 4K at 60fps, but the camera also supports 2.7K at 60fps and 1080p at up to 120fps for slow‑motion work. The lens offers a 130‑degree field of view with an f/2.0 aperture and a 16mm equivalent focal length, giving footage a wide, immersive look that suits travel, action, and POV (‘Point of View’) filming. FeiyuTech includes three selectable FOV (‘Field of View’) modes: Super Wide, Wide, and Narrow. This allows creators to choose between a more natural perspective or a dramatic, action‑camera‑style view. Stabilisation is handled by a true three‑axis mechanical gimbal, which remains the defining advantage of this category over software‑only action cameras. The Pocket 3’s stabilisation is smooth, reliable, and consistent across all resolutions. Walking shots look natural rather than artificially smoothed, and the gimbal maintains horizon stability even when the camera is mounted at unusual angles. For creators who want cinematic movement without carrying a larger gimbal, this is where the Pocket 3 earns its place.

Image Quality

Image quality is solid for a camera of this size. The 1/2.3‑inch sensor is not large by modern standards, but Feiyu’s processing produces clear, colourful footage in good light. The wide‑angle lens gives scenes a strong sense of depth, and the f/2.0 aperture helps maintain brightness in indoor or overcast conditions. WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) improves highlight and shadow detail, making footage more usable straight out of the camera. Low‑light performance is acceptable but not exceptional; noise becomes noticeable in darker environments, and the small sensor limits dynamic range at night. For daytime travel, vlogging, and action footage, however, the results are consistently pleasing. Audio is handled by built‑in microphones on both the camera and the handle. When the two are separated, the camera’s microphone takes priority. Audio quality is serviceable for casual use, with clear dialogue in quiet environments, but it lacks the richness and noise rejection of an external microphone. Importantly, the Pocket 3 does not support external mics of any kind, not through USB‑C, adapters, or the mobile app. This is one of the camera’s most significant limitations for creators who prioritise audio quality.

Magnetic Mounting and Remote Use

The magnetic mounting system is one of the Pocket 3’s standout features. Built‑in magnets allow the camera to attach to metal surfaces, wearable mounts, helmets, car roofs, bike handlebars, and a range of optional accessories. This transforms the camera from a handheld device into a flexible POV tool. Mounting it on a car or bike produces dynamic footage without the need for adhesive mounts, and attaching it to clothing or a backpack strap enables hands‑free recording during travel or outdoor activities. The magnets are strong enough to hold the camera securely during movement, yet the quick‑release design makes repositioning effortless. FeiyuTech has included a wide range of shooting modes, many of which are familiar from other gimbal cameras. Slow motion, panorama, static timelapse, motion timelapse, and hyperlapse are all present, alongside a break‑point resume function that allows users to pause recording and continue from the next frame. This is a surprisingly useful feature for creators who want to minimise editing time, as it allows multiple takes to be stitched together seamlessly in‑camera. AI tracking is another key feature. The Pocket 3 supports both face tracking and object tracking, allowing the gimbal to follow subjects automatically. When mounted on a bike, car, or wearable accessory, this helps keep the subject centred even when movement is unpredictable. Tracking performance is generally reliable, though fast lateral movement can occasionally cause the camera to lose the subject. For most everyday scenarios, such as walking, talking, or filming pets, it works well and adds a layer of automation that suits solo creators.

Battery Life, Connectivity and Considerations

Battery life is respectable for a device of this size. The camera alone runs for around 60 minutes at 1080p30, while the handle extends this to roughly 116 minutes thanks to its built‑in battery. Charging is handled via USB‑C, and the camera supports microSD cards up to 512GB, with UHS‑I U3 cards recommended for high‑bitrate recording. Connectivity is limited to Wi‑Fi for control and file transfer, with no live‑streaming support. The Pocket 3 can function as a webcam when connected to a computer, supporting up to 1080p at 60fps. The gimbal can be controlled via the handle in this mode, allowing users to adjust framing during video calls or live recordings. The Pocket 3’s limitations are worth noting when considering making a purchase. Low‑light performance is modest, external audio is not supported, and the single‑device Wi‑Fi connection can be restrictive. The sensor size places it behind larger‑sensor cameras in dynamic range and night performance. However, these trade‑offs are expected in a device this small, and the Pocket 3 compensates with versatility, stabilisation, and ease of use.

Cubed3 Summary

The Feiyu Pocket 3 Kit offers a refreshing twist on the pocket‑camera formula, pairing a detachable magnetic gimbal head with a remote handle that encourages more creative placement and hands‑free shooting than a traditional setup. It isn’t built for low‑light work and the lack of external audio support limits more demanding use, but its smooth stabilisation, flexible mounting, and genuinely portable design make it an appealing companion for travel, everyday filming, and creators who value freedom and simplicity over carrying a full rig. One of the must-haves on the market right now!
