GameSir VX2 Aimbox

GameSir VX2 Aimbox Review

by Luke Hemming 27 April 2022 0

For many, the ‘PEW PEW’ games are a staple of familiarity and enjoyment. Console gamers however are often penned in by their control methods when it comes to these battle royales. No matter the good intentions and quick reactions, a thumbstick cannot compare to the quick speed of a mouse push and quick click. Aiming (thank you) to fix that however is the Gamesir VX2 Aimbox, a nifty little gadget that enables consoles to use a mouse and keyboard, regardless of whether games are being supported or not. Plenty to click for here.

The Gamesir VX2 Aimbox is a console adaptor only, although needing an adaptor for a PC is a moot point if you think about it. The good news is with this updated release from the original Aimbox, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony consoles are all compatible up to the latest releases. In other words, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and PS5 will have no issues using this little beauty. For those who used the original, there isn’t a vast change in looks although the newest model now includes a built in auxiliary 3.5mm audio port. With this new feature any headset can now be used although it is worth mentioning that the PS5 currently will not allow it. Any other console however is good to go.

Both wireless and wired keyboards are compatible and, after some expected tweaking, provide an experience worth trying out if you are the type of gamer who revels in a bit of first person shooting. For gamers not interested in the genre this is certainly a novelty but the truth remains that for a lot of the general public, this kind of peripheral has been one players have waited on for a long time. These are also the players who will get hours of pleasure tweaking settings to perfection to give themselves the best opportunity of being the first to pop a cap in someone’s skull.

From the initial playtest, tweaking is certainly recommended. Initially hooking up straight out of the box, movement via the standard WASD keyboard setup seemed fine, however mouse aiming was hampered immensely by the dreaded LAG. Thankfully the Gamesir VX2 Aimbox has this covered via its Gamesir App. Within it all features of the gamebox can be tweaked to perfection. With very minimal effort the mouse was sorted and provided enough sensitivity for someone more versed in using their mouse to play Discworld. For the hardened FPS veteran however, there does seem to be more than enough options to tweak and provide a great experience.

One little feature that did impress, even if it’s something that might not even be noticed, is that Gamesir have ensured that when designing the Aimbox it was weighted appropriately to mitigate the potential risk of accidently losing the box off a table or desk. Grips on the underside also ensure no random slippage. It really is such a tiny thing that adds to an already professional looking piece of kit that won’t look out of place in any setup.

Cubed3 Summary

For what feels to a casual gamer like a very specialist kit, the truth remains that theGamesirVX2Aimboxcould easily become an essential piece of kit for certain console gamers. With its compatibility across all systems there is no reason to look any further for a device like this. The app is easy to use and within minutes any gamer will be cracking on. Hopefully a few tweaks in the future (such as the VX2 not working with a standard PS5 controller) will be fixed and will further endorse itself as the go-to for FPS enthusiasts.
