The first thing to notice about the NZXT Function Elite MiniTKL Keyboard is that it is heavy! The heavy-duty aluminium case ensures that its weight is substantially higher than that of regular plastic keyboards, and as such, it sits safely and securely on the desk. There is no movement here! Other than simply sitting flat, it has adjustable tilt feet to raise the rear edge slightly for a more ergonomic typing angle. There are in fact two settings for this, allowing for even more choice and customisation. It connects to the PC or laptop via a USB-C to USB cable and therefore ensures precise feedback, particularly for gaming.
The look is fantastic. The matte white design is complemented by the LED lighting that can be personalised through the NZXT CAM application. Unfortunately, this application is only available for Windows. However, it allows users to change the lighting settings in a variety of cool ways, such as enabling a ripple effect when typing or highlighting the WASD controls. While there are four pre-installed pre-sets to choose from (FPS, MOBA, RPG, and Typing), it is also possible to fine-tune keys to personal specification, through adjustable actuation. Additionally, this keyboard comes equipped with Rapid Trigger and Snap Overrides to ensure a flawless gaming experience.It is not just the look that is absolutely premium, but the feel as well. It feels sturdy, yet comfortable to type or play on. The soft, cushioned keystrokes are accompanied by a deep, satisfying “thocky” sound. Keycaps can easily be removed with the included tool, and can be replaced with any keycaps that use the Cherry MX stem mounts, allowing for further customisation. The same tool can also be used to remove switches, which is incredibly handy for when a deep clean is needed.
Overall, keystrokes of the NZXT Function Elite MiniTKL Keyboard are precise and rapid, all while typing feels extremely comfortable and satisfying. The only downside here is the lack of availability of the NZXT CAM software for Mac. However, the comfort and design offered make this keyboard a real must-have for gaming.
