Anker Soundcore Flare+ Bluetooth Speaker

Anker Soundcore Flare+ Bluetooth Speaker Review

by Adam Riley 9 November 2025 0

Portable Bluetooth speakers are everywhere, but few manage to combine durability, strong audio, and playful extras at a reasonable price. The Soundcore Flare+ (model A3162) is Anker’s larger sibling to the original Flare, promising 25W of output, IPX7 waterproofing, and a 20‑hour battery. It also adds a beat‑driven light show and the ability to charge your phone on the go. At around £109.99 RRP (often discounted), it aims to be both a party starter and a dependable everyday companion.

Design and Build

The Flare+ keeps the cylindrical silhouette of the smaller Flare, wrapped in a durable fabric mesh. Playback controls sit on the top panel, while the base houses a 360° LED light ring that pulses in sync with the music. The design is understated when the lights are off, but lively when the show begins. At 9.1 × 9.1 × 15.2cm and around 853g, it is portable without feeling flimsy. The IPX7 waterproof rating means it can survive full submersion for up to 30 minutes, provided the charging cover is sealed. That makes it a natural fit for poolside, garden, or bathroom use.

Features and Connectivity

Inside, the Flare+ packs two back‑to‑back full‑range drivers, dual passive radiators, and tweeters, delivering 25W of 360° sound. BassUp Technology, powered by neodymium drivers, boosts low frequencies at the press of a button. Other highlights include:

– Bluetooth 5.0 for stable connections;
– Wireless stereo pairing with a second Flare+ for true left/right separation;
– Soundcore app support for EQ adjustments and light show customisation;
– 20‑hour battery life, managed by Anker’s power system;
– USB output to charge a phone, turning the speaker into a powerbank.

The box includes a micro‑USB charging cable and manual. The absence of USB‑C is a drawback, but charging remains straightforward.

Performance in Use

The Flare+ delivers a bass‑forward sound signature that suits dance, hip‑hop, and pop. With BassUp engaged, the low end is punchy without overwhelming the mids at moderate volumes. Vocals remain clear, though treble can sound slightly recessed compared to premium rivals. The 360° projection is a genuine strength, filling rooms and outdoor spaces evenly. At maximum volume, the speaker is loud enough for small parties, though clarity dips slightly at the very top end. Battery life is strong, averaging 15–18 hours in real‑world use with lights active. The ability to top up a phone via USB is practical, though it reduces playback time.

Everyday Convenience

The Flare+ is easy to live with. Pairing is quick, controls are tactile, and the light show can be customised or disabled entirely. The waterproofing inspires confidence outdoors, and the size strikes a balance between portability and presence. The reliance on micro‑USB feels dated, and the app’s EQ is basic, but these are minor compromises in a speaker that otherwise feels versatile and dependable. Importantly, Anker’s documentation reminds users to keep the charging cover sealed near water and to avoid extreme heat — sensible precautions that reinforce the Flare+’s durability credentials.

How It Stacks Up

– Versus Soundcore Flare: The original is smaller and cheaper, but the Flare+ offers more power, longer battery life, and a stronger bass response.
– Versus JBL Flip 5: JBL’s option is similarly priced and rugged, but lacks the light show and stereo pairing. The Flare+ feels more versatile.
– Versus UE Boom 3: Ultimate Ears’ model has a sleeker design and slightly clearer mids, but the Flare+ undercuts it on price while adding BassUp and lighting.

Cubed3 Summary

The Anker Soundcore Flare+ is a fun, versatile portable speaker that balances strong audio with playful extras. It is not the most refined in midrange clarity, and the reliance on micro‑USB feels dated, but its bass impact, waterproofing, and light show make it a compelling choice for parties and outdoor use. Ultimately, it's a lively, durable, and affordable piece of kit. The Flare+ is a crowd‑pleaser that delivers both entertainment and practicality.
