Anker Soundcore Motion+ Bluetooth Portable Speaker

Anker Soundcore Motion+ Bluetooth Portable Speaker Review

by Adam Riley 10 November 2025 0

The Soundcore Motion+ from Anker has carved out a reputation as one of the most capable mid‑range Bluetooth speakers available. Priced around £99–£109, it sits in a crowded field but distinguishes itself with Hi‑Res Audio certification, Qualcomm aptX support, and a wide frequency response stretching from 50Hz to 40kHz. These specifications are not marketing fluff: they are backed by a thoughtful design that includes dual neodymium woofers, two ultra‑high frequency tweeters, and oversized passive radiators, all driven by a digital signal processor with an active crossover. This combination allows the Motion+ to reproduce detail and depth that many rivals in its price bracket simply cannot match.

Design and Build

At 25.7 × 7.9 × 8.1cm and weighing just over 1kg, the Motion+ is compact enough to travel but substantial enough to feel reassuringly solid. The design is understated, with a grille‑fronted face and rubberised edges that provide grip and durability. One clever touch is the 15‑degree upward tilt of the drivers, which helps disperse sound more evenly throughout a room. The build is also IPX7 waterproof, meaning it can survive immersion for up to 30 minutes, provided the ports are sealed. While it is not dust‑rated, the robust casing and waterproofing make it a confident choice for both indoor and outdoor use.

Features and Connectivity

The Motion+ is more than a simple portable speaker. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 for stable wireless connections and includes Qualcomm aptX for higher‑quality streaming on compatible Android devices. For those who prefer wired playback, there is a 3.5mm AUX input, and the speaker charges via USB‑C, which is faster and more convenient than the micro‑USB ports still found on many competitors. The Soundcore app adds real value, offering a customisable EQ with six preset modes and the ability to fine‑tune frequencies to personal taste. Firmware updates are also delivered through the app, ensuring the speaker remains up to date. For those seeking a bigger soundstage, two Motion+ units can be paired in True Wireless Stereo (TWS) mode, although it is worth noting that models purchased before and after November 2022 are not cross‑compatible for pairing.

Performance in Use

The Motion+ delivers 30W of stereo output that feels larger than its footprint suggests. The sound signature is balanced, with crisp mids and highs that bring vocals and acoustic instruments to life. The BassUp technology enhances low frequencies in real time, adding punch without muddying the mix. The result is a presentation that feels detailed and dynamic, whether you are listening to jazz, rock, or electronic music. Volume levels are impressive, easily filling medium‑sized rooms or outdoor spaces. At maximum output, there is some compression, but distortion is minimal compared to many rivals. The active crossover and dedicated amplification for highs, mids, and lows ensure that clarity is preserved across the spectrum. This is where the Motion+ stands out: it is not just loud, it is articulate. Battery life is rated at 12 hours, powered by a 6,700mAh cell. In practice, users can expect between 10 and 12 hours, depending on volume and codec. Charging via USB‑C is straightforward, and the inclusion of modern connectivity helps future‑proof the device.

Everyday Convenience

Living with the Motion+ is straightforward. Pairing is quick, controls are tactile, and the app integration makes it easy to adjust sound profiles on the fly. The speaker is portable enough to carry in a bag, yet powerful enough to serve as a main speaker in a bedroom, office, or small living room. The waterproofing adds peace of mind for outdoor use, and the angled design ensures it projects sound effectively even when placed on a low table. Some compromises remain: the weight makes it less pocketable than ultra‑compact speakers, and while the bass is strong, it does not reach the chest‑thumping levels of larger party‑focused models. However, these trade‑offs are more than acceptable given the clarity, flexibility, and overall polish on offer.

Rivals and Alternatives

Compared to the Soundcore Flare+, the Motion+ is less about spectacle and more about precision, trading light shows for Hi‑Res certification and aptX streaming. Against the JBL Charge 5, it offers more detail and EQ flexibility, although JBL’s model has longer battery life and deeper bass. Sony’s SRS‑XB33 is more rugged and bass‑heavy, but also more expensive. For listeners who value clarity and control, the Motion+ remains one of the strongest choices in its class.

Cubed3 Summary

The Anker Soundcore Motion+ is a refined, versatile Bluetooth speaker that delivers more than just volume. Its Hi‑Res certification, aptX streaming, and custom EQ make it stand out in a crowded market, while the waterproof build and USB‑C charging add everyday practicality. It may not satisfy those chasing thunderous bass or ultra‑light portability, but for listeners who want clarity, balance, and flexibility at a fair price, the Motion+ is one of the best mid‑range options available. Clear, capable, and confident; the Motion+ proves that premium sound does not always require a premium price.
