Sennheiser Sport True Wireless Stereo Bluetooth Earbuds

Sennheiser Sport True Wireless Stereo Bluetooth Earbuds Review

by Adam Riley 26 November 2025 0

Sennheiser has long been a benchmark in audio quality, with its Momentum line often setting the standard for premium wireless earbuds. The Sport True Wireless, however, is aimed at a different audience: athletes and active listeners who want dependable sound and rugged build quality without paying for features they may not need. Released at a mid‑tier price point, the earbuds promise a secure fit, sweat resistance, and the kind of audio fidelity that makes training sessions more engaging. In a crowded market of fitness‑focused earbuds, the Sport TWS must balance durability and performance while still offering enough versatility for everyday use.

Designed for Movement

The Sport True Wireless set is built with practicality at the forefront. Each earbud weighs just 6.8g, and the case is compact at 41.6g, making them easy to carry in a pocket or gym bag. Sennheiser includes multiple ear tip sizes and four stabilising wing sets, ensuring a secure fit whether sprinting, cycling, or lifting weights. The IP54 rating protects against sweat, dust, and splashes, so they are well suited to outdoor conditions. The design is understated, prioritising resilience and comfort over flashy aesthetics. Unlike lifestyle‑focused earbuds that emphasise sleek lines or premium finishes, the Sport TWS are unapologetically functional. This makes sense for a product intended to withstand the rigours of training, where stability and durability matter more than style.

Sound and Everyday Use

Audio quality is where Sennheiser consistently shines, and the Sport TWS delivers on that promise. Powered by the 7mm TrueResponse driver, the earphones produce crisp mids, clear treble, and punchy bass. The standout feature is Adaptable Acoustics: users can choose open adapters to allow ambient awareness during road running, or closed adapters for passive isolation when they want to block out distractions. Battery life is competitive, offering up to nine hours per charge and 27 hours total with the case. The Smart Control app adds EQ customisation and touch control mapping, giving listeners flexibility in how they use the earbuds. However, the absence of active noise cancellation and auto play/pause limits their appeal outside of workouts. For commuting or travel, these omissions are noticeable, and touch controls can be unreliable when moisture is involved.

Fit and Comfort

Fit is critical for any sport‑focused earbud, and Sennheiser’s inclusion of multiple wing sets is a thoughtful touch. The stabilising fins lock the earbuds into place, reducing the risk of slippage during high‑intensity activity. For many users, this makes the Sport TWS more dependable than rivals that rely solely on ear tips. That said, fit can be fiddly. Some users report discomfort after extended wear, particularly with larger fins, and achieving the right balance between stability and comfort may require experimentation. This is not unusual for sport earbuds, but it does mean the Sport TWS demand more patience than plug‑and‑play models.

Durability and Practicality

The Sport True Wireless in-ear headphones are built to withstand the demands of training. Their IP54 rating ensures protection against sweat, dust, and splashes, making them reliable for outdoor workouts and unpredictable weather. The charging case is sturdy yet compact, with a lanyard attachment for convenience, while the earbuds themselves feel robust enough for daily use. Maintenance is straightforward: the silicone tips and wing sets are easy to clean, and the interchangeable ear fins and acoustic adapters allow users to tailor fit and performance to different environments. This modular approach is central to the Sport TWS identity — they aren’t one‑size‑fits‑all, but a flexible toolkit for athletes who want stability and control over their listening experience.

Competition and Market Position

Compared to rivals like the Beats Fit Pro or Jabra Elite Active, the Sport True Wireless stand out for audio fidelity and acoustic flexibility. Where they fall behind is in smart features: no ANC, no spatial audio, and no auto play/pause. Within Sennheiser’s own line-up, they sit below the Momentum Sport, which adds advanced sensors and tighter waterproofing. At full retail, the Sport TWS faces stiff competition from feature‑rich alternatives. Discounted, however, they become a much stronger proposition, offering excellent sound and durability at a fair price. For athletes, the trade‑offs are acceptable; for casual listeners, better all‑round options exist.

Everyday Versatility

While the Sport TWS earbuds excel in training environments, their limitations become more apparent in everyday use. Without ANC, they struggle in noisy commutes or crowded spaces. The lack of auto play/pause means they feel less seamless than rivals when transitioning between listening and conversation. Touch controls, while customisable, can be unreliable in sweaty conditions, which undermines their convenience. For athletes, these compromises are minor compared to the benefits of stability and audio quality. For general listeners, however, they may be deal‑breakers. This duality defines the Sport TWS: they are excellent in their niche but less convincing as all‑rounders.

Value in Context

At their retail price, the Sport TWS competes directly with feature‑rich rivals. At discounted rates, the earbuds become far more compelling, offering strong audio and durability at a fair price. Their longevity and Sennheiser’s reputation for audio performance make them a safe choice, although casual listeners may find better all‑round options elsewhere.

Cubed3 Summary

The Sennheiser Sport True Wireless succeed in their mission: secure, durable, and great‑sounding earbuds tailored for active lifestyles. Adaptable Acoustics is a clever solution, and battery life is competitive. Yet without ANC or auto play/pause, they lack the versatility of rivals. For athletes, these compromises are minor, and the Sport TWS remain one of the most dependable mid‑tier workout options.
