Are there any pre-order bonus's for OoT when it launches anywhere?

GAME gives you a poster and a "free gold case" but I've asked them and they're not sure exactly what the case is. Other than that, I don't think the UK has any special preorder bonuses.

Here's the Japanese launch trailer! Smilie It's pretty damn awesome and the orchestrated music in there is just EPIC. I wonder if Nintendo is trolling us by having such awesome music in the trailers. Smilie They probably are. Smilie I'm forgiving them for the trolling simply because of the most AWESOME Zelda logo animation ever though. Smilie

Man, I'm so excited to play this game all over again. Never actually thought that would happen. Smilie

Yeah that trailer makes me very excited.

And I definitely don't think this version of OoT will compare sales-wise to that of the original. Did Mario 64 DS sell well in comparison to the N64 original?

Tom Barry [ Reviewer - Editor - Resident Sim-Racer @ Cubed3.com ]

Super Mario 64 - 11.62m
Super Mario 64 DS - 9.65m

Apparently.

Zelda Ocarina of Time 64 - 7.6m

I think it's more likely then that the 3DS version won't get near the N64 sales figures. Based on how much SM64DS sold compared to the original, and that the 3DS userbase is going to be smaller than the DS userbase (in my eyes anyway). Even so though, it will still be interesting to see just how well OOT3D does in the long run.

Nintendo Power has reviewed it, giving it a 9.5 out of 10 and saying that it's significantly better than the N64 version.

Here's a little summary from Nintendo Everything:

The second review of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is in, courtesy of the latest issue of Nintendo Power. The reviewer thought highly of the title, giving it 9.5/10. Nintendo Power dished out the same score to the N64 release over a decade ago.

As you may have expected, the review was full of praise. The magazine made sure to point out the positive impact of the 3D visuals and the new touchscreen usage. Although Navi is apparently more of a nuisance this time around, Nintendo Power believes that the 3DS game is significant better than the N64 version.

Why Navi is even more annoying this time around? Well, this quote should explain that too:
…more often then not she interrupts the game to repeatedly suggest that you take a break from playing or go watch a hint movie. Turning to her for advice when I’m hopelessly stuck only to get great tips like ‘Keep Moving!’ or ‘The barrier is blocking the door, there must be some way of opening it’ is like pouring salt into a wound.”

I can already hear all the people screaming in anger because of this. Smilie It's funny, I must be one of the few people who was never really bothered by her in the original.

HEY!! LISTEN!!
Good to see it has been given a good review, can't wait to get my hands on it. :3

Pre-ordered it this morning, looking forward to it.

Only 20 days left.

Does anyone know about any other pre-order bonuses for the UK besides that rubbish poster and sleeve one from Game and GameStation?

That's it. Nintendo UK suck.

Zelda Re-orchestrated's remastered OOT soundtrack: Download here

The guys at ZREO did this a while ago now, finishing it up in 2009. I've had it on my computer for yonks, but just recently started skimming through all my game music and came upon it. With OOT3D coming, and all the talk of lack of an updated soundtrack, I gave it a relisten, and boy; is this what OOT3D's soundtrack should have been?

Every single track from the Kokiri Forest to the opening a treasure chest jingle has been remastered, and many of them sound brilliant. Best news? They're hard at work on re-orchestrating Twilight Princess (and they've done many tracks for other Zelda games including Majora's Mask and Wind Waker too!).

Not to derail too off-topic from the game itself, but this had to be shared with my fellow OOT fans. Maybe some of you have heard it before anyway!

Here's some YouTube links to some of them, but definitely download the full album!

The Iwata Asks with Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo has finally been translated and reveals a few things about the soundtrack of Ocarina of Time 3D. I took the time to summarise the most interesting bits for those of you who don't enjoy (or have the time for) reading those Iwata Asks:

- There'll be one orchestral song in the game by Mahito Yokota, but he didn't want to say which one. He did say that it sounds great on the 3DS though and wants people to hear it.

- Mahito Yokota was about half way done with arranging slightly more up-to-date music when Koji Kondo suddenly said "Make sure you stay faithful to the Nintendo 64 sound."

- The game's soundtrack has indeed been improved to make use of the 3DS' surround sound. That's probably the reason some people were saying that it somehow sounds better on the 3DS version even though it's basically the same music.

- Since the framerate is different in the 3DS version, they put a lot of effort in making sure that sound effects are perfectly timed like in the original because not changing anything would have resulted in thrown off timings for sound effects and other sounds.

- When Yokota was making the title sequence song, Kondo listened to it over and over and criticised that there was no reverb(an echo like effect you get in a concert hall). To make that and other things like the interactive Hyrule Field music happen without making the game too heavy and not running right, they ended up allotting a lot more of the CPU to sound than they usually would, likely making it the most sound heavy 3DS game yet.

So yeah, it's still a shame that we didn't get much better quality/orchestrated music for Ocarina of Time 3D but I'm glad to know that they didn't just copy/paste everything. They probably got a lot of experience with making things sound right on the 3DS' speakers in the process, so I have high hopes for the first 3DS Zelda game in this regard.

I know this is slightly late, but Play have a Zelda embossed 3DS slip case. Not sure how good they are on delivery. They got me MGS4 early, but I've been hearing they got rubbish lately.

Thought of posting this up as news, but it's kinda a slight spoiler.

There's a Skyward Sword reference in Gerudo fortress;

Edit; Ooh, a Majora's Mask one too!

( Edited 11.06.2011 19:35 by Phoenixus )

:/ Where's the MM reference? I see the happy mask shop but...

( Edited 11.06.2011 19:41 by Phoenixus )

Oh, jesus, how did they spot that? XD Damn cool though. Wonder how many there are in this game? I like it.

I really can't wait for this.. I'm so glad they added new easter eggs and other content. Really gives me something to look forward too. Smilie

I've seen quite a few mentions of easter eggs now, really curious what they all are! I won't spoil myself by looking at any screenshots or videos of them though. Only around one more week to find out! Smilie

Appreciate that you guys are keeping it relatively spoiler-free here. I would have stepped into a massive pitfall trap with a shock trap down in the pitfall by checking out this topic if you didn't do that. Smilie ( I'm playing Monster Hunter Tri as I write this, in case someone doesn't immediately get the reference Smilie)

I'm a bit surprised to see you here Azuardo, with your strict media blackout on Skyward Sword. Was thinking that you would do the same for Ocarina of Time 3D, even if it's just little tidbits. Smilie

Well I don't have a 3DS mate, and I don't mind the odd easter egg here and there. I can't see me getting a 3DS any time soon and I've played OOT a bajillion times, so it's not like I'm getting spoilt in the same way as if I was looking at Skyward Sword stuff. I'll pop in to the SS thread now and then but definitely not watching any videos and stuff.

Yeah, it's of course way different for a completely new game. I was thinking you'd get one later this year with the awesome line-up of games. I suppose Mario and Co. aren't exactly system sellers for you though. Smilie

Are you waiting for a new Zelda game to come out for it first? I'd like to know.Smilie

What are the big games coming out for it this year apart from OOT?

Star Fox, Super Mario, Kid Icarus and Mario Kart?

SF64 I already own, MK will be great online, but I have every MK game so I know what to expect, Icarus looks decent but it's not gonna sell the system for me. The big one is probably Mario. I'm a big Mario fan, I grew up on the guy, but I don't think I'm gonna be buying a 3DS just for him.

I just think that at the moment, it's not worth spending the asking price of a 3DS for a bunch of games that I either already have, or are too familiar with. If a brand new Zelda was coming, that might change my perspective a little. It just needs some quality games I haven't played before. But if there was a new entry in the Star Fox, Metroid and Zelda franchises for it, I would definitely be there.

That's why I hope the U isn't going to be like this. I want some killer 1st party games at the beginning.

I like the look of Kid Icarus, it's just the controls still worry me, not because I don't think the stylus controls won't work, it's because I'm left handed, I know I can probably just about get used to the controls, but it won't be the same.

Looking forward to OoT 3DS though, I should be able to afford it.

I wonder if they've kept this scene in the game or changed it in any way.

Soldier Dies

Azuardo, you're forgetting Luigi's Mansion 2. Smilie

( Edited 11.06.2011 21:27 by Marzy )

Didn't they used to big up the DS and Wii because it enabled left handed players to play easier too? Why aren't they including simple button swap options for lefties now? :/

I meant games coming out this year, Marz Smilie LM2 is 2012 right? And while that's gonna be great, it's still not a system seller for me. But I mean, if I were to wait well over a year, or two years, before getting a 3DS, all the mentioned games I would pick up for it, assuming they'd come down in price.

Thanks for sharing that soldier scene too! It's scenes like that that really show the darker side of Zelda. The developers purposefully made that scene and I would be really mad if that was removed in OOT3DS. I don't think it will though.

It's more the analogue stick being on one side, I'd be fine with using the face buttons like N64 buttons to aim as long as they don't react slowly.

Yeah, that soldier scene should be in it, I found it on my first ever play through without knowing that quite a few hadn't ever seen it before.
