Only thing is, I wanted to buy one for my son's birthday next week. The lower price appeals to me more than the free games (since I'll be lucky to get my hands on it!), so do I just give him a card promising one in a couple of weeks' time?

They say that they don't plan on selling GBA games being given away for free in the future to non early adopters.
One of those games is yoshi's island - there was an early tech demo that showed yoshi's island with the 3D classic make over. Is Nintendo not planning to sell these titles because they are planning on releasing 3D versions later? Are the early adopters being given gimped versions? Cuz if there's one game that could really look good in 3D it's Yoshi's Island.
And yet I'm still not in the least bit tempted.

Even if they do, they have promised that you can download the updates for free.
Good point.
Well if they sold those GBA games at £5 each (unlikely, as aLttP is £5.40) that's £100 right there. NES games go for not much less on VC so early adopters haven't got a raw deal at all. I'm excited to try out many old games that I never really had the chance to play. Of the announced games the only ones I have or have had in one form or another are Super Mario Bros., Zelda and Super Circuit, so I'm looking forward to having a great library all in one place.
Already £169 for the console in ASDA...
