DSi Gets a Slight Revamp on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update 1: It seems Nintendo aren't ready to officially announce any plans, with the Japanese division telling Famitsu magazine, "Our company isn't doing any interviews [about this]. We think it's a speculative article."

Original story - 26/10:
Japan will see a new revision of the Nintendo DS by the end of this year, but this time it is only a minor upgrade.

This new iteration will be the fourth variation of Nintendo's popular Handheld, following the Original, the Lite, and the DSi.

Technically, this will still be a DSi, except with 4 inch screens, an extra 0.75 inches bigger than the current model, and will retail for the same price. No word yet on whether there are any other changes, or if there will be an overseas release for this DS, but Nintendo are expected to make an announcement on it soon.

If this is true then the new DSi must be huge since they can\'t really fit 4\" screens on the current DSi. Seems like a pointless update.

Say GBA Slot and I'm sold. They wouldn't make a change to it unless it was that.

...unless...NOT ANOTHER CAMERA?!

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

I am hoping this one has that blender attachment I have been waiting for.

Lol.

Nintendo to customers: 'Fuck you! Ahhahahahahaha! Please buy this.'

I think my DS lite has no reason to start packing its bags tbh

Add me on anything. I'm always looking for new friends/opponents/town visitors/chances to appear more popular than I actually am.

Seems unlikely to me.
Whats the point in a bigger screen with the same resolution?
And whats the point in larger resolution when most games are pretty raster-based? Youd just be stretching almost everything.

Yes, I wonder how PC gamers live with themselves.
I mean, new graphic cards come out every few weeks -_-

Nintendo have said they'd wanted to make a bigger screened DS for the older people with bad eyesight for ages haven't they?

But haha 3 revisions beats the GBA now...unless you count frontlit and backlit SPs as different?

and wait this is the same size screen as a PSP...but 2 of them? yeah that sounds pretty big for a handheld?

It's an optional thing if true, They say it's for those with not so good eye sights. I know a few parents that have a hard time playing brain academy because of the small letters. This would be good for people like them.

I can't really see this making it out of Japan. A larger DSi for older gamers just doesn't seem very marketable over here.

Is darkflame defender of all things nintendo. Im not particularly bothered by this announcement but you always defend any and all nintendo decisions. They are definately not a company without some major flaws.

I'm not a defender of Nintendo per-say, I just rally against cliche and illthought out arguments.
I've got my own problems with Nintendo but they arnt summed up by "dont friendcodes suck! We all hate friendcodes!" or "new hardware! hahah! Nintendo rips us of". My problems with Nintendo I could spend a few pages on. Its just their "major flaws" I hardly see ever mentioned.

Complaining about a company releasing revisions to their hardware however is not even a flaw, let alone a major one.

If people are so desperate to have the latest thing that they somehow feel ripped of if a company releases something marginally better its their own fault. Its more then that its a personality flaw.
Wanting the latest and greatest stuff for bragging rights just isnt a legitmate complaint. I think my comparison with PC hardware is pretty fitting.

Nintendo releaseing something in no way whatsoever reduces the functionality of the device you already paid for.

And note; This isnt against Bart either. He just made a joke.
Its more that Ive seen this argument/viewport crop up time and time again and it annoys me every single time. I feel like slapping the internet sometimes.

Just because something better is released dosnt mean you have to buy it, and it dosnt mean your old hardware is made worse.
You bought a system to play games!

(of course though, if Nintendo released a new -format- portable system with a high probability of discontinuing game support for the old, thats a whole different ballgame. DSi owners would feel rightfully pissed then.)

No one is saying they are perfect, but it is just crazy that some people are complaining about this.

This isn't a flaw. This isn't a mistake. This isn't a "screw you". It's a rather minor hardware change to cater to an older demographic.

Seriously? What's the big deal?

I was laughing aswell, remind me to * you aswell Smilie. As Big L would say .... I\'m fed up with the BULLSHIT. I\'m gonna go sell my DS i never play it anyway.

I don't understand the DSi hate. I have one and it is much nicer than the original DS. If I want to play GBA games (I haven't since I got the DSi) then I'll use my original DS.

I don't think this update is needed really, but I don't understand how it could be bad either. Most consoles have many versions (look at the Xbox360) and people aren't crying about that.

Actually I think this will stay in Japan.

It must be the only country where people get excited about an 0.75 inch increase.

save it for DS2

Well, being a PC gamer I can tell you this. Even though a new card come out every few MONTHS, there aren't any drastic changes with these cards, and you can usually stay with the current gen card you have. Say you have the new ATI Radeon card, A new one will come out in a month, the only difference is that this new card is two together.

This isn't for us. Those that own a DS Lite can go the DSi way or those of us that already have a DSi can't see a problem since we made our choice and DSiware purchases are not transferable so we're set already.

THIS is for the elderly and those that have problems seing smaller screens and, one would guess, using smaller buttons. THIS is Nintendo making a push for an expanded market of one of their demographics.

Still, those inclined to go from DS Lite to DSi4" might have to consider they'll be losing an hour of battery life...

The title says larger screen for Japan, while china get the original DSi.
Article says Nintendo are releasing the DSi in china.
Then it's cut off half way through so I can't see a mention about the larger screen....

the table says new DS will have a screen greater than 4 inches though....hmm
