Japanese Sales, 24th-30th May, 2010 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The latest Media Create software and hardware sales have been compiled for the week of 24th-30th May, 2010. This week in Japan saw the long awaited release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii, which had initially had a first day opening only marginally stronger than its predecessor. However, by the end of the sales week, it managed to sell nearly 340,000 units in total, which is quite a fair bit more than the first Galaxy outing. The only problem this sequel may have is the fact that whilst the first game had the festive holiday sales period to boost it (which eventually helped it scrape its way to the million sales mark), this has been launched nowhere near any major holiday periods, and right in the middle of what is considered the biggest sales slump Japan has seen for many years. Therefore, even though it may have shot out of the gates quicker, its sales longevity may not be as good.

It should also be noted that this was the week that Red Steel 2 launched in Japan, and with first day sales of around 900 units (representing 9% of stock that retailers ordered), the sequel has done atrocious in comparison to the first game.

Check out the Top 50 software sales, as well as the hardware below,

Great to see Mario Galaxy 2 start so well. Can't wait to play it myself. I do hope that Super Robot Wars OG Saga: The Lord of Elemental gets released to the west, I love those games.

Isn't that the one that doesn't have massive licensing issues? If so, then there is a chance Atlus could pick it up for the US. They never seem to make it to Europe, though, sadly.

Yea surprisingly there has never been issues with the Super Robot War games despite the massive amount of references everywhere. I think Atlus has localized most of the series (and related) ones to the US but not anywhere else which is a real shame. Import is the way to go.
