3DS Topped Japan Records in December on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

The 3DS continues to perform well after a slow start in Japan, breaking Enterbrain's hardware sales record during the festive season.

Stats tracker and Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain started number crunching in 1997 and since then console manufacturers have attempted to earn the coveted top spot. The 3DS has had that right for the previous seven months, and December earned Nintendo bragging rights as the highest single month's sales total of 1,492,931 since publication began.

Rival hardware the PlayStation Vita had a solid launch month, selling 402,794 units in 15 days.

It's a technicality due to the tracker - via Media Create, the Nintendo DS still holds the record.

Interesting that, isn't it? One tracker now has 3DS as the champ, the other has DS - shows the disparity between publications!

@jesusraz: Still, in the end it's great news for Nintendo! Sony? Not so much.

Vita's 3rd week sales were something like 42,000...after three weeks it hasn't sold through its initial stock run of 500,000 units! Smilie
