Rayman Legends Delayed Worldwide to First Quarter of 2013 on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

In a statement to VideoGamer.com today, Ubisoft has confirmed that the highly anticipated 2D platformer, Rayman Legends, has been delayed to the first quarter of 2013, and will miss the Wii U launch as originally planned.

"Rayman Legends will launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2013. We're happy that fans are excited about the game, and we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations. We'll have more details to share soon."

ZombiU, Assassin's Creed III and Just Dance 4 -- Ubisoft's other titles -- are all still on schedule to release alongside the Wii U.

Whilst you wait for the sequel to Rayman Origins, why not give our hands-on preview of the game a read?

Has this altered any plans on picking up the Wii U at launch for readers? Will you pick up another game instead, or wait until Rayman Legends launches before buying the console now?

Can anyone else say 'multi-format release'? Smilie

Nope, more likely avoiding bad sales. Plus, it was only a launch title in EU anyway.

If it was a lower-profile release, then perhaps, but Rayman games are normally big sellers at Nintendo launches...If Ubi was to delay anything from its launch line-up it'd have to be stuff like Sports Champion or another 'lesser' name. Unless the company wants to give Rabbids Land more breathing space. Sort of reverse the 3DS situation where Rayman was first, followed by Rabbids.

Origins launched in a period with extremely heavy competition on all platforms, some even in the same genre, so it wouldn't surprise me if that played a part in this decision at the very least. After all, it has NSMBU as direct competition on the Wii U and no matter how much better Legends looks to be, the majority will still be picking Mario over Rayman and tbh, if I had to choose between them, I most likely would do the same simply because I like the controls and physics of the NSMB games more.

Yeah releasing it at the same time as Mario Bros isn't exactly a good move, however it's saddening that the WiiU now has one less great launch title.. and a shame that Ubisoft would want to miss out on what could have been amazing Christmas sales for the underrated limbless hero.

PLUS I'M SAD this was my most anticipated WiiU game! Darn it.

I see where you guys are going with this - okay, fair enough, competition from NSMB U may have impacted on sales...Perhaps Ubi will wait until Easter to grab holiday sales then.

A lot of the gameplay in this game relies on the gamepad, so I doubt it. They don't want to force the player to buy another piece of hardware to play their game, like MS's Smartglass or Sony's PSVita, as level designer Chris McEntee said recently in an interview :

I know the fact it's been announced as exclusive doesn't mean it'll always remain like this, but I can't see this specific game become multiplatform very soon. In the long run, if the WiiU version doesn't sell well, then yes.
