No Club Nintendo Rewards for Wii Mode on Wii U

No Club Nintendo Rewards for Wii Mode on Wii U on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Are you hoping to expand your Wii library on the Wii U by purchasing WiiWare and Virtual Console releases through the Wii Mode? You won't receive reward points for doing so.

The original Wii allows owners to link a single Club Nintendo account to register games, like Virtual Console releases, to receive surveys to fill in and coins for rewards.

This is still available to older Wii owners, but players running the virtual "Wii Mode" on the Wii U will not receive these extra incentives for downloading Wii software on their newer console - despite accessing the same catalogue.

Nintendo's reasoning for the bizzare move is due to "system constraints" - perhaps they quite simply, forgot?

Due to certain system constraints, Club Nintendo accounts cannot be linked to the Wii Shop on the Wii U. Games downloaded through the Wii Shop on the Wii U (in Wii mode) do not qualify for surveys or Coins.

Nintendo, we don't care, as long as you release the Wii U VC within 2 months!

"by" not "buy". Just thought I would point that out.

I did not even know you could do that on the Wii Shop Channel. Oh well, I bought maybe three things from there in my entire life and probably won't be buying anything from it in the future, but that seems like something Nintendo should've implemented anyway.

So is this even for people who already connected their accounts? Weird and lazy.

Yeah this feature is something no one really cares about, so watch nintendo fix it and leave the other important missing functionality alone....

Since it's talking about Stars, I assume this is about America only.

I'm oftend confused with Cubed3's articles. I know it's EU-based, but most articles don't mention whether the news applies to the PAL or NA market...

Stars is EU, Coins is NA.

But I'm sure this particular news applies to all regions. I would imagine.

Well it's both - if it's specific for a region we would normally say Europe, North America etc. There are a few exceptions perhaps, but generally we do cover our bases - release dates included.

Man, backward compatibility with Wii U is sloppy at best. Reminds of of bad emulators on PC.

"You can't earn coins or participate in surveys with Wii and VC games that you download online and play though an emulator."

No kidding. Haha. But for an official Nintendo product to follow suit? Weird...
