Nintendo News | Wii Has Got Online Worms

By Adam Riley 30.08.2007 19

Following Worms: Open Warfare 2 for the Nintendo DS, Team17 and THQ are once again teaming up, but this time for an online Wii version called 'Worms: A Space Oddity', the newest iteration of the popular turn-based strategy game. The game is scheduled for release in Spring 2008 and retains the same style of humour that has become synonymous with the Worms brand. This edition will feature a fresh visual style, new environmental settings, intuitive controls and even more customisation options than before. Players will now be able to launch attacks through a wide range of gesture-based manoeuvres with the Wii Remote.

In Worms: A Space Oddity, players will be treated to a blend of classic Worms game modes and re-invented single-player missions, as well as multiplayer modes that include a host of all-new party games and even more customisation options. The game takes advantage of the Wii's intuitive controls, on-screen hints and the redesigned interface with an in-game help system. Worms: A Space Oddity demonstrates significant visual, technical and design advancement over its predecessors with a new visual style that abandons the traditional drawn approach and replaces it with a distinctive style inspired by classic Sci-Fi looks. The Worms battles take place across six planets, each with its own, unique environments and global events. The online multiplayer experience pits up to four Worms friends from all over the world against each other.

Online worms could be excellent. The Wii is still in dire need of a great online multiplayer game.

Hell yeah! Sounds damn fine, can't wait to see this Smilie The recent worms outings on both home/portables have been great.

I'll bet its 3D and on a similar level of greatness as all the other 3D games, only now its got a space theme!

I'd kill for a 2D game, or even just a port of World Party with enhancements.

Go on... Let it be 2D!

Sounds good! I'll probably be getting Open Warfare 2 in the next few weeks too!

Come to think of it, I'd love that. Like Warioware. 2D could look great on Wii.

It's the only thing that could look great Smilie

*Pulls Josh's head out of his arse* See? It's not the Wii-games that look like shitSmilie

A 2D Worms on Wii would be teh awesome^^ But, I hate how they say they'll include gestures.. Just use the pointer to aim, the B-button to fire, and the stick to walk around or something.. For fuck's sake..

~Getting on C3's massive tits since 2K5.~

Well, true that, but who knows? I was gonna make a bloggorant about how the DS & Wii aren't being used to their potential, but instead the games people want most are the games where you just play a normal console game with a few different things. Pok

Simply Awesome! Can't wait as i'm a huge fan Of the Worms games.

PLEASE BE 2D. If it's 2D I'm buying, if it's not I'll give it a miss.

Heh, Worms. I loved Worms Armageddon. Smilie

Hoopla!

I guarantee it will be utter shit. If it's 3D it'll be shit because it's 3D. If it's 2D it'll be shit because they recently decided to completely fuck up the PERFECT physics engine that they already had, so that nothing works properly. If it was crap on the 360 it'll be crap on the Wii >_>

You heard wrong. its terrible. 3D worms=worst thing ever. Played a demo that came with my copy of Worms 2, and immediately uninstalled it as it was so bad.

2d worms however is brilliant.

With 3D Worms, basically imagine everything that's good about the 2D Worms games. Then imagine those things not being in the game at all. That's basically 3D Worms.

And I'd also advise everyone in the entire world to, for the love of God, NOT EVER buy Worms Open Warfare, it's shockingly bad, seriously... Just go and get Worms World Party on the PC for

I think I probably got it for less than that Smilie

And yes, it is without question the pinnacle of the Worms games.

I already got Open Warfare, about a year ago, it was very meh. Graphics are disappointing, especially since Worms 2 is so old.

Worms Open Warfare 2 looks good though. I mean it's online. :3

& Worms 3D has average reviews of about 75%. Not terrible. The GC version is the best version (It's always that way isn't it? Smilie)

What did they do to the physics? There's still hope. Smilie

Maybe Team 17 just don't like 360 :cooldude:

Nope, they screwed up the physics for the DS and PSP versions and just used the same engine for the 360 version. Basically nothing feels how it should, everything's really glitchy, and the ninja rope controls like a steel rod in tar. It feels almost as bad as the Worms do on the ground... Jumping made me want to cry...

And good reviews doesn't mean it's good... I mean all the Final Fantasy games have average scores of over 80% and they're even worse than 3D Worms...

The DS version of Open Warfare 2 is tall over the dual screens, not the way its meant to be (wide (ie on PC)). You get a very narrow field of view on the DS, and the touch screen isn't really used at all.
