By Jorge Ba-oh 24.09.2007 12

Quick News: In a surprise announcement, Rockstar's upcoming Table Tennis for Wii won't have online features. "All the focus is going into making it the most advanced control system on the Wii." Smooth move or foul ball? Be sure to throw your comments in our discussion forum.

I heard about this from Leipzig vids, and it was no surprise then Smilie.

Sigh. Typical - I'm not saying every game needs online, but in this instance it really seems stupid to strip it.

Yeah seems a bit strange. Ballbags.

So... what does it have if it doesn't have online? I havn't played the 360 version, but I don't see how a game can be about just 1 sport... it's not even that big a sport ^^;

If the game looks well made unlike most Wii games, & has good controls, then I guess that'll be enough to warrant a purchase though...

In a first announcement Rockstar stated, it would include 64 Player per Map. this has been toned down for performance Reasons.
A Rockstar speaker told us exclusively, that "...we experienced some performance lags, so we allowed only two people to go online on one map. The only excuse would be maps like "cs_tt_double" whereup to four players can fight and control up to a quarter of the whole map. Buggies not included!"

What's the problem here? Either they are too unexperienced to do controls right or they lacked the ability to let four lousy players battle the ball against each others. Shame for them, isn't it?

I find your lack of faith disturbing!

Dont critise them yet.

They could indeed be working on much more advanced controlls then WiiTennis.

WiiTennis is great, but hardly accurate to real life. (you cant really hit the ball "upwards" can you?).

IF Rochstar are attempting to correlate wiimote movement to racket movement to ball physics, that could indeed be quite an advancement.
(and just the sort of advancement Wii owners should be looking for in games!).

Its dissapointing theres no two player online, but they could be truthfull if they say they are working on "All the focus is going into making it the most advanced control system on the Wii."

Maybe this isn't so bad? If they crack the controls in the first game, then surely online play would follow in the sequel? This gives rockstar the chance to make a decent control system first time round, and let nintendo get their online system right, rather than have half baked control system and half assed online play.

Yeah lack of online support for this is a shame but not a huge one. I saw of a demostration of the game and it looks like it's quite fun.

On another note I saw some footage from TGS the other day which sees a Badminton game coming to the Wii.

I hope they work on the presentation as-well. All the footage i've seen of it looks rather bland and boring. I would have prefered online play, but if it means they produce a brilliant game i suppose i can live with it. They better make a brilliant game if they're not adding online play though!

I could see any lag frustrating the hell out of anyone playing this game online. And it's not really anything they can do about it.

I think that Badminton game was part of that 'Deca-Sports' thing. Certainly keeping my eye on it.

It's a shame that there is no online but I'm more interested in how the controls work.
