Focus Interactive has today announced the development of TrackMania DS. The game will be the handheld version of the popular racing series on PC and is scheduled for release sometime during the Fourth Quarter of 2008. The title is being developed by Scottish development team Firebrand Games (of Race Driver: Create & Race fame, and recently revealed as bringing out its sequel on DS as well), and hopes to bring the fun and frantic racing of the popular PC franchise to Nintendo DS. Players will drive at blistering speeds on incredible tracks made of jumps, loops, turbo boost pads and other crazy design elements.
And just like in the PC version, TrackMania DS will include a feature-rich track editor, which will enable players to create unique tracks from hundreds of design blocks. There is also the promise of multiplayer support, and if Firebrand's performance with Create and Race is anything to go by, we can definitely expect something very special indeed! For now, though, no firm information on modes and player numbers has been revealed.
"We are very happy with this partnership with Firebrand. Their technology and background guarantee TrackMania DS will be a solid adaptation of the PC game, while also making the most of unique features of the DS. The fact that some members of the Firebrand team are true TrackMania fans definitely convinced us to trust them, and the first results are spectacular."
