Only "Gamers" get it.

I was just thinking when reading today\'s C3 news, that there are a lot of things in video games which must have a different meaning, or make no sense whatsoever to the non-gamer. For instance:

\"Nintendo\'s Reggie Loves Mother\"

Now we all interpret that to mean Mother the game, but at the same time to someone else that might be a bit strange for a headline. There\'s also of course \"RPG\". Rocket propelled grenade or role-playing game?

So what are some other ones?

At first glance at thread title he\'s a great big Samoan mummies boy. But the gamer knows Mother3

\"I\'m going to kill that hooker\"

\"I got fragged so hard the other night\"

\"Damn,I\'ve only done two raids in the past month\"

\"It\'s got amazing DPI\"

\"I\'m gonna punch the crap out of the plumber that I have been un able to pass\"

Red Ring Of Death. You don't want to get engaged with one of those.

I was thinking of this recently too, and this thread kinda helped me with Philosophy revision. Meta-ethics, each area has it's own set of meaning, language and rules, etc.

Like after you play a football match, you say "I lost the game!" And it makes sense in 2 completely different ways. Some people would get a lot more annoyed than others though, and the others would be all like "WTF it's just football? Wait you lost too? How does that work?"

"Grinding". It's only ever used "properly" for Sonic and skateboarding games. Smilie

"Good games", non gamers think "GTA". Hahah, imagine that Smilie *runs away*

Get every game that looks good on TV commercials

It requires great courage to look at oneself honestly, and forge one's own path.

I guess it's all about really getting all the inside jokes that others might not get. Say for instance that there's some sort of reference in a movie or a TV show. You'll know it and you fell on top of the world because the people around you don't get it. Ah, that's the best feeling. Smilie

Anyone remember that battle in Japan ages ago where they had some rather large crabs?
Good job they knew where their weak point was, eh?

Like pretty much the whole of Big Bang Theory. Best program ever for laughing at memes and nerdy jokes that noone else gets. Man I love that program.

They even did a \"weak point for massive damage\" reference in Pokémon D/P/Pt. I loved that. Smilie There was another awesome reference in a game I played lately but I can\'t remember it. Chrono Trigger and Star Ocean remakes both had a fair bit of 1337speak.

Quite a few of the Star Trek jokes go over my head, but I love the occasional physics or gaming joke they throw in there.

There\'s also been a couple of times where there\'s an actual physicist playing a cameo on the show which make me chuckle.

I really fucking hate the canned laughter though. And Penny. I mean, I'd plough that, but she's still annoying as hell.

Really I thought it was quite shit, if you like internet jokes and such, IT crowd would be a better alternative.

I love that show, not only because of it's jokes, but because Sheldon reminds me so much of one of my friends; the way he talks and presents himself is almost exact.

I love the IT Crowd too; personally I got fed up of how long it takes them to make it and how little episodes there are per season. Big Bang Theory is a more than good enough substitution for me Smilie

I like loads of comedies so most of the time I couldn't care less about the canned laughter; or even notice it's there.

My favourite comedies are The Office and Scrubs, both of which lack canned laughter Smilie

Haha, I remember that fondly.

Ah someone's got taste Smilie. Try watching 30 rock and extras, I reckon you'd love both of those.

Words like "pwn" and the way "own" is used rarey is understood by the non-gamers. When you're having a conversation in public with one of your friends, people look at you funny! Smilie

Back on topic slightly, its just a case of interpretating language in context of the video game industry coined together with frequently used terminology.

You look all around the forums, or even in this thread (although at some points forced to proove a point) , its just slang at the end of the day, not only video game slang but internet slang.

The more and more the gaming environment expands, the more and more us nerds get put in that tiny little whole. The hardcore gamers are shrinking...well...just not growing as fast the casual gamer.

I do know what you mean, i said the term Red Ring of death to a few people when my 360 decided to pack its bags the other month, yet i got a few sniggers and weird looks by people who just thought....NERD!....

Furthermore people on forums and gamers like to cite and quote the weirdest things and have the weirdest bits of knowledge known to man, simply because of the world wide web at their fingertips.

Its almost like a northerner at a pub quiz (school for them) always knowing the answer to most pointless questions in the world.

Sorry for the rant.

Much Love!
