Nintendo News | Exchange Stars for Wii Points

By Jorge Ba-oh 08.12.2007 111

Nintendo of Europe website has relaunched with the service now offering them much sought after Star points to Wii points conversions.

The website (still inaccessible for some), details the exchange at a rate of 4 stars to 1 Wii point. Points can be exchanged for 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Wii Points. For example, for 1000 Wii points, players must exchange 4,000 star points.

It's quite good, not bad really. Not to mention, first time since 2002?

Mario Galaxy Soundtrack would be too good to be true... Would be incredible

I think the Stars page is "lame" because it's so incredibly popular. At least it actually works now Smilie

EDIT: It's working really fast for me now. Guess NoE got it sorted.

Why is the 500 and 1000 cards greyed out? do they actualy send you the card and have just run out? I thought it just added the points automatically to your wii?

Not entirely sure, I think they just want to experiment with these vouchers first to see what the uptake is.

It states on the first page you can only by two cards per day, but Graig Shipton has told me he just bought over a 1000 Smilie

Well, the greyed out ones for me, are all the ones above the amount I can spend with the Stars I have. I have 490 stars and can only buy 100 points, I'm assuming that all the others will light up when we get 4000 Stars.

Well i have 5900 or so stars and there still greyed out...

    XBL Gamertag: James2t3

Hmm... that's weird... I'll see what happens when I put on more of my stars tomorrow.

I've got 24000 stars and it says stars to expire at the end of december 1500, does that mean how many stars I will be left with or how many stars will expire?

That silly expiry thing changes. Yesterday it said I had 4500 expiring by December, so I bought 4700 stars worth. Today I check it and the stars have been taken off. BUT, it now says that a further 2895 are expiring. Con.

LS, I bought two lots of 500 (1000 was greyed out) and a 300.

I see. You know the only voucher available now is the 100 Wii points. Those points better be back up soon I hope.

@ L, that is the exact number they will be deducting from my balance also if you do not spend that amount within December.

The first time I checked, all Cards were available (>500), now only the 100 Points Card.

I guess the larger ones are sold out. =/ I really hope it's not a temporary and limited deal, like the stars catalog.

I get the impression they were all available at one point also.

They had better bloody put them all up again today, I intendoN getting 2000 Wii points.

    Found this in the FAQ-

Check if your Wii Points Card of choice is still available. If your Wii Points Card of choice is momentarily no longer available, please come back at a later date.

    Smilie

I think they had a a quota of Wii Points they wanted to sell and no more. Hopefully they will be back up again soon and in plentiful numbers after most have already spent.

I just sent a email to see if it will be soon.

    Smilie

So, only 100 points cards are up now? Damn that sucks.

Wii Points page is "down" now anyway. Maybe Ninty are adding more?

BTW, do you get "Stars off" for getting bigger cards? Or are they all the same value? So if I bought ten 100s would that be the same amount of stars as one 1000?

    Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

I have not done the math, but I think it's safe to assume it all pretty much works out the same. When the page is next up it would be a good time to get all the relevant info to see what the situation is there.

Don't you think it's great that now with the smaller cards available we can touch up our balance. I only bought a 100 Wii points yesterday because I had a annoying 400 on my balance.

Not that i'm complaining...but how come none of my points will expire????

    EDIT: whups page stretch

I've got over 8000 and none of my stars are gonna expire either.

They better hurry up and allow more 1000 point cards to be bought. It's a bit stupid that there are strict limits.

Smilie Theres nothing there but shit now Smilie

I wouldnt have minded that Wii Bag.

Oh well, im gonna hold on a lil longer methinks. I can't use the Virtual Console...so Wii Points are a bit usless to me. However having said that, i'd rather buy the Wii Points for cash and get some of the exclusive gear that you cant get else where.

I mean why would you get Wii points when you can buy them easily from game shops or the internet when NoE have exclusive merchandise.

The Club Nintendo part doesn't work for me again...

I agree with flynnie - rare items ftw!!! SmilieSmilieSmilie

EDIT: oh it is working...i wonder if i should get the mario games rack...everything is being sold out so quickly...must decide soon.

But while the catalogue prices have increased its got harder to earn stars Smilie only 100 points for brain training...and no points for repeat visits.- but the japanese club nintendo has always been like that - makes sense i guess - a

It suddenly hit me: 400 points is

This whole thing is hilarious. Only NoE could fuck this up so ham-handedly.

It's awe-inspiringly typical, it really is.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

It is typical, but do you know what would have been even worse? Opening up the new website, complete with a new Stars catalogue, with a lot of wallpapers, screensavers, and obscure games that noone wants, and only having about 10 copies of them.

I honestly expected that when the site reopened, instead we have Wii Points and real merchandise, while "expensive" and worth a lot of stars, they're all "free" in terms of real money, every last one of them. You don't buy a Wii game just so you can get more Stars on your account, you buy a Wii game because you want the game, and get Stars as a bonus.

Personally I don't think it's bad, I just think the amount of stock they "prepared" is just awful...

It'll take me a hell of a long time to get 2000 points from 100 point Cards Smilie

    Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

Oh yeah just saying the japanese Club nintendo site doesn't have a Wii points convertor yet.

And the mario games rack is in both catalogues so i can use it for comparison:

    UK
    4500 points =
    18 Wii games or
    22.5 DS games

    Japan
    350 points =
7.875 Wii games bought within a month of relase or
11.67 older Wii games bought or
11.67 DS games bought within a month of release or
    17.5 older DS games bought
or if you preordered a copy of the game beforehand
    5.86 Wii games or
    8.8 DS games bought

The new club UK site is an improvement - but i'm still glad i mostly buy japanese games Smilie

Wii Points ALL gone now... lol. I didn't get any :-/

How exactly can they run out? They're virtual, they just get sent straight to your Wii! It's not like Nintendo have a limited supply of Wii Points! Smilie

    Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

The underlying problem (which reappears again and again with every aspect of the Wii meeting the internet) is that instead of accounts/profiles, the Wii in itself is what points are recorded to and represents your identity. They can't just add some points to your account and knock some stars from the website, they have to go through the process of creating codes which credit your Wii by however many points.

Like in the factory when they make the cards with unique codes, the codes only become valid as they are created to stop people from simply cracking the system and making their own. This means that even if they aren't making a card and sending it to you, they have to make the codes in batches for security reasons.

They could properly integrate the two systems, but they've not bothered. Hence why you have to punch in a code, and why the 'cards' ran out.

It's so utterly retarded and lazy that my head is spinning and I probably won't sleep tonight for fear of being attacked by escaped Nintendo of Europe staff (who are zombies with no heads).

The completely randomized star expiration thing is just the icing on the cake.

And it doesn't even make any difference to me because I won't be able to register my account with my American Wii anyway!

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.

I've had these stars (my 490) for years, but apparantly none of them expire in December...

Yah, NoE do suck, they're gonna ruin Smash Bros Brawl for us Europeans, I just know it. Smilie

    Twitter | C3 Writer/Moderator | Backloggery

I've got 2825 from over about 3 years, and at the moment it says 250 will expire.

It's going to be shit and you jolly well know it.
