F-Zero GX (GameCube) Reader Review

Ah, beautiful backgrounds, 30 detailed racers, lighting effects, all running at 60 FPS. What a joy to the eyes. My gripe is that there isn't much artistically done which RPGs have, aka more hand drawn skills, but that's life.

The audio is filled with intense, fast paced music which complements the gameplay. Sound effects really don't strike me as amazing because the music drowns it out. If you like this kind of music; well I like it too, it gets me pumped. If don't like techno, well turn it off.

The plot is trash. Capt. Falcon, the obvious "GOOD GUY, POSTER BOY" goes on his adventures of saving some people, racing bad guys, etc. I guess I admire the attempt at making a plot, though I wonder if Initial D did it better...

Gameplay is purely a test of reflexes. Turn coming? Position yourself to avoid collision and don't take your thumb off the A button. The faster you go, the harder it is to control. Once you get better, you can use attacks to kill your fellow racers. It's a game of physical reflexes.

F-Zero throws some bonus stuff at you. In addition to the league mode, there's the story mode, and create-a-car mode. Yep, you too can pimp your ride. I like this because unlike most other games, each part has a strength AND a weakness. This means no kart will be 100% better than another kart, er car. Another thing to note is there's a shop where you can buy cars, car parts or races.

There's supposed to be a hookup to F-Zero AX, which is the arcade machine, but most arcades probably got rid of it because someone at Nintendo/Sega said, HEY LET'S NOT INCLUDE HEAD TO HEAD RACING THAT MADE INITIAL D SO POPULAR. Well, I tried it and the seat moves and it vibrates... and it vibrates... oh yea baby... er, yea, you get credit for unlocking stuff on the GC game by hooking your mem card on the machine.

Overall, it looks nice, sounds intense, plays intense, but the plot sucks.
