Atlus Confirms My World, My Way RPG for Nintendo DS on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

Update - It would appear that Siliconera was spot on with its speculation as Atlus USA has now confirmed that it is indeed translating Global A's Nintendo DS RPG for the Western market, with a US release of 'My World, My Way' being lined up for 3rd February next year, with no confirmation on a European release just yet (although all eyes will be on the likes of 505 Games and Rising Star Games to pick it up soon). Below is the official trailer, along with the Press Release detailing what can be expected. It should be noted that whilst the video makes the game look as if aimed at a younger, female market, reports are that the game is actually of a pretty high standard...

"Attention, please! I am sick of RPGs with gender-confused boy heroes with their spikey hair and ginormous swords living out an absurd ultimate fantasy. Is having your village burn down all you really need to be a champion? And a scar on your face is supposed to make you... What, dark and brooding? Try uncoordinated.

"My name is Elise, and I can change things. No, seriously. When I travel, I expect things around me to go my way. If they don't, I can make them! In My World, My Way, I can change the landscape when it doesn't suit me, make monsters give me more money, and always take the first turn in battle. I can also make enemies go away if I don't feel like fighting, shut down their magic abilities, and even make quests solve themselves. Sure, other RPGs let you explore lands and fight monsters, but how many of them let you change the world around you?

"If those walking, talking manchild clichés can leave their farms and their tiny villages - saying tearful goodbyes to their uncles or surrogate parents - and save the universe in the course of a few hours, I'm sure a resourceful girl like me will have the world wrapped around my finger in no time."

Elise is a beautiful princess who has been given everything she has ever wanted. Upon turning 15, she realises there is only one thing in the world she lacks - a handsome boyfriend. She sets out to remedy this by asking her father to hold a ball in her honor, to which every prince from every kingdom is invited to come and try their hand at wooing her. However, only one young man catches Elise's eye, and, as it turns out, he is no prince, but an adventurer. Knowing that fate itself has ordained him as her true love, she confesses her desire to share in his exciting life... Only to be flat out rejected. He tells her, "If it is truly your desire is to be with an adventurer such as me, I would ask you first to do something with that long hair. Cast aside that frilly dress, and don a suit of armour. Gain some experience in battle, and when you have matured, we shall meet again. Until then, I bid you farewell."

And so, much to the Kingdom's shock and dismay, Elise, the clueless princess, sets out on her adventure! It's her world, her way, and as long as she can help the weak, slay the monsters, and win enough fame, she will get her happily ever after.

Original Story, 07/11/08: Following the recent revelation of Devil Survivor from Atlus Japan, it would appear that the company is set to bring another developer's title to the US market.

Along with news of Mario Golf coming to the US Virtual Console, MySims Party for Wii, as well as Gradius Rebirth and MaBoShi's Arcade heading to WiiWare there, the Entertainment Software Rating Board has a new rating for a game called My World, My Way that is being published by Atlus USA.

Speculation has led to the idea of Global A's Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru (The World Revolves Around Me) being the game in question, which would be the second game Atlus has picked up from the developer, the first being Master of the Monster Lair, also on DS. Below is a trailer of Global A's RPG:

The main character is a selfish princess that can change her surroundings to suit her whims, as well as choosing the level of enemy difficulty and bonuses from 3D battle encounters. Certain items are only available in specific areas, so the world needs to be manipulated in a particular way depending on what task the princess has been given by the local mayor. It certainly all looks and sounds very intriguing, so hopefully the speculation will be right on the mark...

Won't be long until EU gets Mario Golf VC now, methinks...

This looks like it could be an interesting twist on the standard RPG theme...we shall see.
